Hualapai Flat
Hualapai Flat (pronounced "wall-a-pie") is a valley in northwestern Nevada, USA, located northwest of the Black Rock Desert. The two valleys are separated by the Calico Hills. The Granite Range marks the southern and western edges of Hualapai Flat. To the north the valley is constrained by the Granite Range and the Calico Hills. Washoe, Pershing, and Humboldt counties meet in the Hualapai Flat. The northern two-thirds of the valley are used for pasturage by cattle ranches. The southern third is occupied by a playa on the Fly Ranch. The valley has a number of geothermal features associated with the northwest Nevada volcanic region, such as Fly Geyser, also called The Geyser, Cottonwood Springs, and Wards Hot Spring. In 1997 the Burning Man festival, usually located in the Black Rock Desert, was held on private land in Hualapai Flat. Calico Hills, Humboldt County, Nevada
The Calico Hills or Calico Mountains are a mountain range in northwestern Nevada. The range runs north to south along the western edge of the Black Rock Desert. This mountain range is located in western Humboldt County and the northwestern corner of Pershing County, approximately 30 miles north of the town of Gerlach, Nevada. The best access to the Calico Hills is located from the maintained Soldier Meadows Road (Humboldt County Road 200) that forms its eastern boundary. Most of the mountain range is divided into two federally designated wilderness areas. It is part of the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. Washoe County () is a county in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 census, the population was 486,492, making it Nevada's second-most populous county. Its county seat is Reno. Pershing County is a county in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,650. Its county seat is Lovelock. The county was named after army general John J. Pershing (1860–1948). It was formed from Humboldt County in 1919, and the last county to be established in Nevada. The Black Rock Desert, location for the annual Burning Man event, is partially in the county. The county is listed as Nevada Historical Marker 17. The marker is at the courthouse in Lovelock. Humboldt County is a county in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 17,285. It is a largely rural county that is sparsely populated with the only major city being Winnemucca which has a population of 8,431. The Basin and Range Province is a vast physiographic region covering much of the inland Western United States and northwestern Mexico. It is defined by unique basin and range topography, characterized by abrupt changes in elevation, alternating between narrow faulted mountain chains and flat arid valleys or basins. Fly Geyser
Fly Geyser, also known as Fly Ranch Geyser is a small geothermal geyser located on private land in Washoe County, Nevada, about north of Gerlach. Fly Geyser is located near the edge of Fly Reservoir in the Hualapai Geothermal Flats and is approximately high by wide, counting the mound on which it sits. In June 2016, the non-profit Burning Man Project purchased the Fly Ranch, including the geyser, for $6.5 million. The Burning Man Project began offering limited public access to the property in May 2018. The geyser contains thermophilic algae, which flourish in moist, hot environments, resulting in multiple hues of green and red, coloring the rocks.
