Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant
Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant (Hrazdan TPP, hy, Հրազդանի ջերմաէլեկտրակայան) is a natural gas-fired power plant in the north-western part of Hrazdan in Armenia. It is one of the largest power plants in Armenia. This power plant was built in 1963–1974, and the first unit became operational in 1966. In 2013, a new unit was added. Four older units of the plant are owned and operated by thHrazdan Power Company a subsidiary oTashir Capitalowned by the family of Samvel Karapetyan. The new fifth unit is owned and operated by Gazprom Armenia. History HTPP was envisioned as a power plant to serve the entire South Caucasus, including Armenia. Construction began in 1963, and the plant became functional in 1966, with two turbines with a total capacity up to 100 MW. The Vorotan Cascade, or the ContourGlobal™ Hydro Cascade, is a cascade on the Vorotan River in Syunik Province, Armenia. It was built to produce hydroelectric power and provide irrigation water. The Vorotan Cascade consists of three hydroelectric power plants and five reservoirs with a combined installed capacity of 404.2 MW. It is one of the main power generation complexes in Armenia. History The planning process of the Cascade began just after the Conference of the State Planning Commission held in 1951. In 1954, it was highlighted that with proper infrastructure and careful planning, Armenia's energetic hydro resources might allow it to become an electricity exporter to neighbouring energy deficit areas like Azerbaijan and Iran. Sevan–Hrazdan Cascade
Sevan–Hrazdan Cascade () is a complex of hydroelectric power plants on the Hrazdan River and its tributaries between the Lake Sevan and Yerevan in Armenia. They use irrigation water flow from the Lake Sevan and streams waters of Hrazdan River. The cascade is owned by the International Energy Corporation (IEC), a subsidiary of Tashir Group owned by Samvel Karapetyan. History The first small-scale Yerevan Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) was built in 1923. In 1932, it was replaced by Yerevan-2 HPS. The construction of the current cascade started in 1936, when the Kanaker HPS was opened. That time it was planned to built the whole cascade by 1947. Metsamor NPP
The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) (), also known as the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant, (Armenian: Մեծամորի ատոմային էլեկտրակայան) is the only nuclear power plant in the South Caucasus, located 36 kilometers west of Yerevan in Armenia. The ANPP complex consists of two VVER-440 Model V270 nuclear reactors, each capable of generating 407.5 megawatts (MW) of power, for a total of 815 MW. Iran–Armenia Gas Pipeline
The Iran–Armenia gas pipeline is a long pipeline from Iran to Armenia. The long Iranian section runs from Tabriz to the Iran–Armenia border. The Armenian section runs from the Meghri region to Kajaran, and another of pipeline is planned to reach the center of the country, where it will link up with the existing distribution network. History The plans to build the pipeline was initially announced on 15 April 2002 by Armenian Energy Minister Armen Movsisian. It started operations on 20 December 2006, and was officially inaugurated by the Presidents Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran and Robert Kocharyan of Armenia on 19 March 2007. Heller László (1907–1980) was a Hungarian people, Hungarian professor and mechanical engineer credited with inventing the Heller–Forgó cooling system for power stations. Biography Born in Nagyvárad, Heller took a degree in mechanical engineering in 1931 at the ETH Zurich, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich. In the 1940s the first high-pressure industrial power station was built according to his plans. It was around this time that he invented the Heller–Forgó system. In 1951 he was awarded the Kossuth Prize. He organized the Department of Energetics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, where he worked as a professor.
