Howrah is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Clarence in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census recorded a population of 8690 for the state suburb of Howrah. It is a suburb of the City of Clarence. It is east of Bellerive and north of Tranmere. Howrah is a beachside suburb, with views across the Derwent River to Hobart City. Clarence Street runs through the centre of the suburb separating the hillside section from the beachside. Howrah has a number of parks including Wentworth Park, which is one of the key sport (such as soccer, field hockey and touch football) and recreation areas on the Eastern Shore. City Of Clarence
Clarence City Council (or City of Clarence) is a local government body in Tasmania, and one of the five municipalities that constitutes the Greater Hobart Area. The Clarence local government area has a population of 56,945, covering the eastern shore of the Derwent River from Otago to the South Arm Peninsula and the smaller localities of Cambridge, Richmond, and Seven Mile Beach. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. South Arm Highway
The South Arm Highway (part of the B33 road route) is a highway serving the southern suburbs of Hobart, on the eastern shore of the River Derwent in Tasmania, Australia. The highway is a major trunk road that carries heavy commuter traffic south from the Eastern Outlet to Howrah and Rokeby. As one of the Tasman Highway's principle Feeders and one of the eastern shore's major transport corridors, The South Arm Highway facilitates the movement of traffic between the suburbs and satellite communities to the south with the city centre and ultimately, other major cross city highways. Touch (also known as touch football or touch rugby) is a variant of rugby league that is conducted under the direction of the Federation of International Touch (FIT). Though it shares similarities and history with rugby league, it is recognised as a sport in its own right due to its differences which have been developed over the sport's lifetime. Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Wentworth Park, Tasmania
Wentworth Park is the home ground of Clarence Zebras FC, but can be used by other teams in other sports such as touch football, and Ultimate Frisbee tournaments. In the summer it is used as a cricket ground. It is a picturesque facility located adjacent to Howrah Beach and allows for views across the River Derwent. The facility is served by three main pitches, as well as a training ground and a touch pitch. In the early 1990s Clarence United FC (then called Phoenix) upgraded the clubrooms, bar, and changing room facilities. The headquarters for Tasmanian Touch Association and the offices and grounds of Southern Touch, where they hold summer and winter rosters on up to 10 touch fields. Division Of Franklin (state)
The electoral division of Franklin is one of the five electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly, located in southern Tasmania and includes Bruny Island, Kingston and the eastern shore of the Derwent River.
