How Awful About Allan
''How Awful About Allan'' is a 1970 American made-for-television horror psychological thriller film directed by Curtis Harrington, the first of two collaborations with writer Henry Farrell (the other was ''What's the Matter with Helen?''), and starring Anthony Perkins and Julie Harris. It premiered as the ''ABC Movie of the Week'' on September 22, 1970, and was produced by prolific television producer Aaron Spelling. Plot Allan Colleigh has psychosomatic blindness following a fire that killed his father, a renowned academic who punished Allan as a child. The fire also facially scarred Allan's sister Katherine. Allan had accidentally left some cans of paint thinner near a heater which caught fire. Returning home partially cured after months in a mental hospital, Allan tries to adjust to his life back at home. Henry Farrell
Henry Farrell (September 27, 1920 – March 29, 2006) was an American novelist and screenwriter, best known as the author of the renowned gothic horror story '' What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?'', which was made into a film starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Life and work He was born Charles Farrell Myers in California, and grew up in Chowchilla, California. Under the name Charles F. Myers, he wrote the "Toffee" short stories. Later taking the pseudonym Henry Farrell, his first novel was ''The Hostage'', published in 1959. It was filmed in 1966. With Lukas Heller, he co-wrote the screenplay for '' Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte'' (1964), starring Davis and Olivia de Havilland. It was based on a story he wrote titled "What Ever Happened to Cousin Charlotte?", and the script earned Heller and Farrell a 1965 Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Motion Picture Screenplay. Frank Kent Smith (March 19, 1907 – April 23, 1985) was an American actor who had a lengthy career in film, theatre and television. Early years Smith was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Smith. He was born in New York City and was educated at Lincoln School, Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, and at Harvard University.
