Hovhannes Tcholakian
Hovhannes Tcholakian (12 April 1919 – 16 September 2016) was a Turkish-Armenian Archbishop of the Armenian Catholic Church. Tcholakian was born in Istanbul and ordained a priest in Istanbul on 25 April 1943. He was elected archbishop on 23 May 1966 and consecrated on 16 January 1967. Excellency
Excellency is an honorific style given to certain high-level officers of a sovereign state, officials of an international organization, or members of an aristocracy. Once entitled to the title "Excellency", the holder usually retains the right to that courtesy throughout their lifetime, although in some cases the title is attached to a particular office, and is held only for the duration of that office. Generally people addressed as ''Excellency'' are heads of state, heads of government, governors, ambassadors, Roman Catholic bishops and high-ranking ecclesiastics and others holding equivalent rank (e.g., heads of international organizations). In Christian denominations, an archbishop is a bishop of higher rank or office. The Armenian Catholic Archeparchy of Istanbul, also known as Armenian Catholic Archdiocese of Constantinople, serves Armenian Catholics in Turkey and is under the Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia. Its cathedral is St. Mary of Sakızağaç Cathedral in Istanbul. History The eparchy was established in 1860. Gregorio Pietro XV Agagianian (; anglicized: ''Gregory Peter''; Western hy, Գրիգոր Պետրոս ԺԵ. Աղաճանեան, ''Krikor Bedros ŽĒ. The Patriarchate of Cilicia ( la, Patriarchatus Ciliciae Armenorum) is an ecclesiastical jurisdiction and the only patriarchate of the Armenian Catholic Church of the Catholic Church.
