Hovedstaden
The Capital Region of Denmark ( da, Region Hovedstaden, ) is the easternmost administrative region of Denmark. The Capital Region has 29 municipalities and a regional council consisting of 41 elected members. As of 1 August 2021 the chairperson is Lars Gaardhøj, who is a member of the Social Democrats party of Denmark. The Capital Region was established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. This reform abolished the traditional counties (Danish plural: , singular: ) and created five regions. As part of this reform 271 smaller municipalities were merged into larger units reducing the number of municipalities to 98. The reform dramatically diminished the power of regional governments while enhancing that of local government and that of the central government in Copenhagen. It was implemented on 1 January 2007. Copenhagen
Copenhagen ( or .; da, København ) is the capital and most populous city of Denmark, with a proper population of around 815.000 in the last quarter of 2022; and some 1.370,000 in the urban area; and the wider Copenhagen metropolitan area has 2,057,142 people. Hillerød Municipality
Hillerød Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden ("Capital Region"). The municipality covers an area of 191 km² (74 sq. miles), and has a total population of 48,728 (1 April 2014). The mayor of the municipality as of 1 January 2018 is Kirsten Jensen, a member of the Social Democratic political party. Overview The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town also named as Hillerød. The city of Hillerød also houses the administrative capital of Region Hovedstaden. Gribskov Municipality
Gribskov Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden ("Capital Region"). The municipality covers an area of 278 km², and has a total population of 40,850 (1 April 2014). The municipality was created on 1 January 2007 as a merger of the former municipalities of Græsted-Gilleleje and Helsinge. Its mayor as of 1 January 2018 is Anders Gerner Frost, a member of the local Nytgribskov (''New Gribskov'') political party. Regions Of Denmark
The five Regions of Denmark ( da, regioner) were created as administrative entities at a level above the municipalities and below the central government in the public sector as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, when the 13 counties ('' amter'') were abolished. At the same time, the number of municipalities ('' kommuner'') was cut from 270 to 98. The reform was approved and made into a law by the lawmakers in the Folketing 26 June 2005 with elections to the 98 municipalities and 5 regions being held Tuesday 15 November 2005. Each region is governed by a popularly elected regional council with 41 members, from whom the regional chairperson is chosen. The main responsibility of the regions is healthcare. Lesser powers of the regions include public transport, environmental planning, soil pollution management and some coordination of secondary education. Høje-Taastrup Municipality
Høje-Taastrup Kommune is a municipality (Danish language, Danish, ''Municipalities of Denmark, kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 78 km² (30 mi²), and has a total population of 50,676 (1 October 2018). It was formed by the 1970 Danish Municipal Reform, and its 1974 adjustment, by merging the parish municipalities of Høje Taastrup, Sengeløse, the Fløng part of Hvedstrup-Fløng and the Reerslev part of Reerslev-Vindinge. Fredensborg Municipality
Fredensborg Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden (Capital Region). The municipality covers an area of 112.13 km2 and has a total population of 39,551 (as of 1 April 2014). Its mayor, since 2010, is Thomas Lykke Pedersen, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The municipality was created on 1 January 2007, in a merger of the former municipalities of Karlebo Kommune and Fredensborg-Humlebæk Kommune. Ishøj Municipality
Ishøj Municipality (Danish: ''Ishøj Kommune'') is a municipality (Danish: '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers 26 km², with a total population of 21,675 (1 April 2014), many of whom are Pakistani, African, Arab, or Turkish immigrants. Its mayor is Ole Bjørstorp, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The main town, and the site of the municipal council, is the town of Ishøj, which has one of Scandinavia's biggest housing projects - Vejleåparken (formerly Ishøjplanen). Hvidovre Municipality
Hvidovre Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden near Copenhagen on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 22 km2, and has a total population of 53,416 (1 January 2019). Herlev Kommune is a suburban municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. Halsnæs Municipality
Halsnæs Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden ("Capital Region"). The municipality covers a total area (land and water) of 122.15 km² (2013), according to Municipal Key Figures (De Kommunale Nøgletal (www.noegletal.dk)), and has a total population of 31,420 (1 January 2021). The municipality also includes the island Hesselø. Up to 20 km2 of the total area is water, as part of the largest lake in Denmark, Arresø, lies within the municipality. Glostrup Municipality
Glostrup Kommune is a suburban municipality (Danish '' kommune'') and town in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') approx. 10 km west of Copenhagen in eastern Denmark. Gladsaxe Municipality
Gladsaxe Kommune is a municipality (Danish, ''Commune (subnational entity), kommune'') near Copenhagen in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a total population of 69,681 (2019). Its mayor is Trine Græse, a member of the Social Democrats (Denmark), Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') Politics of Denmark, political party. The site of its municipal council is the town of Buddinge. Other towns in the municipality are Gladsaxe, Bagsværd, and Mørkhøj (Søborg is often mentioned wrongly, but it is just a part of Buddinge)—but town limits are not distinguishable because the towns have grown together in an urban sprawl.
