Hou Jizhen
Hou Jizhen (; born November 1951) is a retired lieutenant general ('' zhongjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) who served as chief of staff of the Shenyang Military Region from 2009 to 2014. He was a representative of 17th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. Biography Hou was born in Xiajin County, Shandong, in November 1951. He served in the 23rd Army for a long time. In December 2003, he was appointed commander of the 40th Group Army, replacing Wang Guosheng. In December 2005, he was commissioned as commander of the 16th Group Army, succeeding . In June 2009, he rose to become chief of staff of the Shenyang Military Region, and then deputy commander of the region in December 2013, serving in the post until his retirement in December 2014. Major General
Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant. In the Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth and in the United States, when appointed to a field command, a major general is typically in command of a Division (military), division consisting of around 6,000 to 25,000 troops (several regiments or brigades). It is a two-star general, two-star rank that is subordinate to the rank of lieutenant general and senior to the rank of brigadier or brigadier general. The 78th Group Army (), is a military formation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Forces (PLAGF). Wang Guosheng (; born February 1947) is a retired general of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China. He served as commander of the Lanzhou Military Region. Biography Born in Da'an, Jilin Province, Wang joined the PLA in February 1968. He then served as chief of staff of the 40th Group Army. In December 2001, he was elevated to commander of the 40th Army. He became the chief of staff of the Lanzhou Military Region in December 2003, and was promoted to commander of the Lanzhou MR in June 2007. Wang attained the rank of major general in 1998, lieutenant general in 2005, and full general in 2010. The 40th Group Army was a military formation of the People's Liberation Army, active in various forms from 1949 to 2017. It was last located in the Shenyang Military Region and the Northern Theater Command. History Korean War During the Korean War, the 40th Army was part of the People's Volunteer Army. 23rd Army (People's Republic Of China)
The 23rd Army was an army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, active from 1949. The army originally consisted of the 67th, 68th Division, and 69th Divisions. However, the 68th Division was disestablished in August 1952. It was active during the Korean War. The People's Republic had planned to rotate all troops in Korea by the end of 1953, and the Chinese Central Military Commission authorized the 23rd, 24th and 46th Corps to replace 20th, 27th and 42nd Corps by September 1952.. People's Liberation Army
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the principal military force of the People's Republic of China and the armed wing of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The PLA consists of five service branches: the Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, and Strategic Support Force. It is under the leadership of the Central Military Commission (CMC) with its chairman as commander-in-chief. Shenyang Military Region
The Shenyang Military Region was one of seven military regions for the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It has command and control of military and armed police forces in the three northeast provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Liaoning, which also form Military Districts. This region is now superseded by the Northern Theater Command. The Shenyang Military Region was left with unchanged boundaries since the late 1960s. It is bordered internally by the Beijing Military Region to the west. Externally, it is bordered by North Korea to the south east and the Russian Far East to the north. Prior to the Cultural Revolution, military region commanders tended to remain in post for long periods. As the PLA took a stronger role in politics, this began to be seen as something of a threat to party (or, at least, civilian) control of the military. (; ja, 将, Shō; ) is the rank held by general officers in some East Asian militaries. The ranks are used in both the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China on Taiwan. The People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police use three levels at present while the Republic of China Armed Forces use four. In both North and South Korea the rank is also used. Chinese variant People's Liberation Army The same rank names are used for all services, prefixed by ''haijun'' () or ''kongjun'' ().
