''Hottentotta'' is a genus of scorpions of the family Buthidae. It is distributed widely across Africa, except for most of the Sahara desert. Species in the genus also occur in the Middle East, the Arabian Peninsula, southeastern Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Cape Verde Islands, and Sri Lanka (introduced). Taxonomy The genus was introduced in 1908 by A. A. Birula, originally as a subgenus of the genus '' Buthus''. It was elevated to genus rank by F. Werner in 1934. The blue-billed teal, spotted teal or Hottentot teal (''Spatula hottentota'') is a species of dabbling duck of the genus ''Spatula''. It grows year round, with individual shoot segments growing more than 1 m (3 ft) per year. It can grow to at least 50 m (165 ft) in diameter. The leaves are a dull-green or yellow-green colour. They are only very slightly curved and have serrated sides near the tips. The yellow flowers are produced from April to October, and range from in diameter. Two of the calyx lobes are longer, extending further than the petals. The flowers open in the morning in bright sunlight and close at night. The Africanis is a dog landrace found across southern Africa. Description As is typical with landraces, there are several regional variations, believed to be the result of isolation and, to a limited degree, deliberate breeding. ''Pachymetopon blochii'', the hottentot seabream or hottentot, is a species of sea bream in the family Sparidae, native to the southwestern coast of Africa. Description ''Pachymetopon blochii'' has a bronzy grey color, with darker fins. The small mouth contains five rows of incisors in both upper and lower jaw, but no molars. Adults are commonly around 25 cm in length at the age of maturity, but may reach up to 54 cm, with a maximum recorded weight of 2.67 kg. Distribution and habitat The species occurs in the southeastern Atlantic, from Angola to Cape Agulhas at the southern tip of South Africa. Vagrants have been recorded as far east as the mouth of the Tsitsikamma River.
