Hotel Alexandra (Loen)
Hotel Alexandra is a historic hotel in the village of Loen in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. History The hotel was opened by Markus Anders Loen (1862-1927) under the name ''Loen's Hotel'' in 1884, but since 1892 has been in continuous operation under the name ''Hotel Alexandra''. The hotel is named after Princess Alexandra of Denmark. The hotel, which overlooks the Nordfjorden, has undergone several minor and major developments and changes over the years, but stands today as a modern family-tourist and conference hotel. The hotel is part of a group that also owns the neighboring hotel Hotel Loenfjord. There is currently fourth and fifth generation of the same family running it. Eivind Grov has been director since 1965. As of 2012, Alexandra Hotel has 190 hotel rooms, four restaurants, two bars, a nightclub/disco, personal wine cellar, and spa. Loen, Norway
Loen is a village in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the inner part of the Nordfjord region, at the easternmost end of the Nordfjorden. Loen is located about north of the village of Olden and about southeast of the municipal center of Stryn. The lake Lovatnet is located just to the southeast of the village of Loen. The Hotel Alexandra was established in Loen in 1884. The historic Loen Church is also located in the village. History Loen is the home to some of the oldest farms in Norway: ''Sæten'' (Setin), ''Tjugen'' (Tyfin), and ''Loen''. They were probably established long before the time of Christianity. Much of the upper Loen valley was devastated from two rockfall slides (one in 1905 and one in 1936) that created huge waves that swept with them most of the houses and vegetation. Stryn
Stryn is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Stryn. The municipality is located along the innermost part of the Nordfjorden. Some of the main villages in Stryn include Loen, Innvik, Utvik, Randabygda, Olden, and Flo. Farming, forestry, fruit growing, animal breeding for furs, small manufacturing industries, tourism, and the service trades provide the main occupations. The wide river Stryneelva enters the village of Stryn from the east after meandering through the fertile Stryn Valley, from the large lake Oppstrynsvatn. Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. Nordfjorden (Sogn Og Fjordane)
Nordfjorden is the sixth longest fjord in Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Stryn, Gloppen, Stad, Bremanger, and Kinn, and it is the central feature of the entire Nordfjord region which makes up the northern third of the county. The long fjord stretches from Husevågøy island in Kinn Municipality to the village of Loen in Stryn Municipality. The fjord starts as runoff from the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier, in the east and it flows west, emptying into the ocean just south of the Stadlandet peninsula. The mouth of the fjord lies between the large islands of Vågsøy and Bremangerlandet (with the smaller island of Husevågøy lying in the middle of the mouth).
