Hot Springs County–Thermopolis Municipal Airport
Hot Springs County–Thermopolis Municipal Airport () is a general aviation airport 10 miles northwest of Thermopolis, Wyoming. The airport was opened in 2015 to replace the original Thermopolis Municipal Airport, which was in the city of Thermopolis, but was unsuitable to expansion. This airport has been discontinued since and now serves as part of the Thermopolis Golf Course. Hot Springs County, Wyoming
Hot Springs County is a County (United States), county in the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 4,696, making it the second-least populous county in Wyoming. Its county seat is Thermopolis, Wyoming, Thermopolis. The county is named for the hot springs located in Hot Springs State Park. History Hot Springs County was created on February 21, 1911, with of areas annexed from Big Horn County, Wyoming, Big Horn, Fremont County, Wyoming, Fremont, and Park County, Wyoming, Park counties. It was organized in 1913. Hot Springs County was named for the hot springs located in the county seat of Thermopolis, Wyoming, Thermopolis. Thermopolis, Wyoming
Thermopolis is the county seat and largest town in Hot Springs County, Wyoming, United States. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, the town population was 2,725. Thermopolis is Greek for "hot city." It is home to numerous natural hot springs, in which mineral-laden waters are heated by geothermal processes. The town is named for the hot springs located there. The town claims the world's largest mineral hot spring, appropriately named "The Big Spring", as part of Hot Springs State Park. The springs are open to the public for free as part of an 1896 treaty signed with the Shoshone and Arapaho Indian tribes. Dinosaur fossils were found on the Warm Springs Ranch in 1993, and the Wyoming Dinosaur Center was founded soon after. An air taxi is a small commercial aircraft that makes short flights on demand. In 2001 air taxi operations were promoted in the United States by a NASA and aerospace industry study on the potential Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) and the rise of light-jet aircraft manufacturing.
