Horseshoe Mesa
Horseshoe Mesa is a 5,246-foot-elevation mesa-summit located in the eastern Grand Canyon, in Coconino County, Arizona, Coconino County of northern Arizona, Southwestern United States, US. It is located 1.5 mi south of the Colorado River and Granite Gorge; also 4 mi due-south of the Cape Royal overlook, and ~2.0 mi northwest from Grandview Point, of the East South Rim, Grand Canyon. The Grandview Trail descends to Horseshoe Mesa, then drops down to meet the (mostly horizontal trail, on the Tonto Platform), the Tonto Trail. Horseshoe Mesa is shaped like a horseshoe, legs facing due-north towards the Colorado. The mesa is a mostly flat upper platform of Redwall Limestone, with its tall cliffs elevating the mesa. A peak of Supai Group is the prominence, at the mesa's south end. Krishna Shrine
Krishna Shrine is a 6,131-foot-elevation summit located in the eastern Grand Canyon, in Coconino County, Arizona, Coconino County of northern Arizona, Southwestern United States, US. The landform is attached at the southwest to the Vishnu Temple (Grand Canyon), Vishnu Temple massif, about 1.0 mi distant. Krishna Shrine is about 3.0 mi south of the Cape Royal overlook, Walhalla Plateau (southeast Kaibab Plateau, North Rim). A twin landform occupies the southeast of Vishnu Temple, the Rama Shrine. Krishna Shrine towers about 4,000 ft above the Colorado River, about 2.0 miles south. Both Shrines, east and west, and Vishnu Temple, center, are at the headwater drainage of Asbestos Canyon. Supai Group
The Supai Group is a slope-forming section of red bed deposits found in the Colorado Plateau. The group was laid down during the Pennsylvanian to Lower Permian. Cliff-forming interbeds of sandstone are noticeable throughout the group. The Supai Group is especially exposed throughout the Grand Canyon in northwest Arizona, as well as local regions of southwest Utah, such as the Virgin River valley region. It occurs in Arizona at Chino Point, Sycamore Canyon, and famously at Sedona as parts of Oak Creek Canyon. In the Sedona region, it is overlain by the Hermit Formation, and the colorful Schnebly Hill Formation. The Supai Group is coeval with the Hermosa Group of east and south Utah; the Hermosa Group extended southeastwards from Utah to Durango, extreme southwest Colorado, and adjacent to the Hermosa type section. The Tonto Trail is a hiking trail on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Grand Canyon National Park, located in the U.S. state of Arizona. Grandview Trail
The Grandview Trail is a hiking trail located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park, located in the U.S. state of Arizona.It was built in 1893 by miners and is noted for its cobblestone and cribbing sections. Description The trail begins at the north end of the Grandview Point parking area, off of Arizona state route 64, east of Grand Canyon Village, Arizona. From the trail head, it makes a quick descent through the Kaibab Limestone and Toroweap Formation, making a couple of early switchbacks. Portions of this section of trail were reconstructed in the summer of 2005 after a couple of storms washed them out. Bright Angel Shale
The Cambrian Bright Angel Shale is the middle layer of the three member Tonto Group geologic feature. The 3-rock Tonto section famously sits upon the Great Unconformity because of the highly resistant cliffs of the base layer, vertical Tapeats Sandstone cliffs. The Bright Angel Shale is easily identified for two reasons. Its soft-greenish color stands out against the browns, reds, and whites of neighboring rock units. And secondly for its slope-forming character against mostly cliff-forming resistant rocks. The Bright Angel Shale is about thick at its maximum. It is a nonresistant slope-forming unit. The Cambrian Muav Limestone is a geologic unit within the 5-member Tonto Group. It is about thick at its maximum. It is a resistant cliff-forming unit.
