Hornchurch High School
Hornchurch High School is a mixed secondary school with academy status, located in the Hornchurch area of the London Borough of Havering, England. Until September 2018, it was known as 'The Albany School'. The school converted to academy status on 1 August 2011. Previously it was a foundation school and Business and Enterprise College administered by Havering London Borough Council. The school continues to coordinate with Havering London Borough Council for admissions. In January 2019 an Ofsted inspection report rated the school as 'Good'. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The terms of the arrangements are set out in individual Academy Funding Agreements. Foundation School
In England and Wales, a foundation school is a state-funded school in which the governing body has greater freedom in the running of the school than in community schools. Foundation schools were set up under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to replace grant-maintained schools, which were funded directly by central government. Grant-maintained schools that had previously been voluntary controlled or county schools (but not voluntary aided) usually became foundation schools. Business and Enterprise Colleges (BECs) were introduced in 2002 as part of the Specialist Schools Programme in England. The system enabled secondary schools to specialise in certain fields. Schools that successfully applied to the Specialist Schools Trust and became Business and Enterprise Colleges received extra funding for applied business teaching from this joint private sector and government scheme.
