Horehronie (also Upper Hron River region or Horné Pohronie or Felső-Garammente) is a List of tourism regions of Slovakia, tourism and geographic region of Slovakia. It is situated in the Banská Bystrica District, Banská Bystrica and Brezno District, Brezno districts and encompasses the upper Hron River valley and the surrounding Low Tatra mountain ranges. Slovakia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song "Horehronie (song), Horehronie" written by Kamil Peteraj and Martin Kavulič. The song was performed by Kristina (singer), Kristina. The Slovak entry for the 2010 contest in Oslo, Norway was selected through the national final ''Eurosong 2010'', organised by the Slovak broadcaster Slovenská televízia (STV). 60 entries competed in the national final which consisted of nine shows: six quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final. In the quarter-finals, four entries were selected by a public vote to advance from each show. Twenty-four entries qualified to compete in the semi-finals where six entries were selected to advance from each show based on the combination of votes from a three-member jury panel and a public vote. "Horehronie" is a Slovak pop song, composed by Martin Kavulič with lyrics by poet Kamil Peteraj and performed by Kristina, and it was the Slovak entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. It was performed together with a backing vocals Hana servická and dancers: Martin Mikulášek, Peter Živner, David Schimmer & Slavomír Kolkovič. The song is an ode to the Horehronie tourism region. It became the winner of the Slovak music contest Eurosong 2010 on 27 February, getting the largest share of the televote and coming second in the jury vote. The song failed to qualify to the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 final from first semifinal on 25 May, reaching 16th place out of 17. Kristína (singer)
Kristína Peláková (born 20 August 1987), known professionally as Kristína, is a Slovak singer. She is best known for representing Slovakia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song “Horehronie”. The song placed 16th in the semi-final with a total of 24 points. Kristína is one of the most popular female artists in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and has toured both countries on multiple occasions. Kristína started her career as a child singer, dancer and piano player in Svidník, Slovakia. Following the advice of her music teacher, she took singing as her major and attended the Conservatoire (Music School) in Košice. While studying, her favourite place in town was the Jazz Club, where she met Martin Kavulič. He became her producer and helped her to secure a contract with the record label H.o.M.E. Production. The Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was the 55th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Oslo, Norway, following the country's victory at the with the song "Fairytale (Alexander Rybak song), Fairytale" by Alexander Rybak. Low Tatra
The Low Tatras or Low Tatra ( sk, Nízke Tatry; hu, Alacsony-Tátra) is a mountain range of the Inner Western Carpathians in central Slovakia. It is located south of the Tatras proper, from which it is separated by the valleys of the Váh and Poprad rivers (the Liptov-Spiš abasement). The valley formed by the Hron River is situated south of the Low Tatras range. The ridge runs west-eastwards and is about 80 km long. The Čertovica pass divides the range into two parts. The highest peaks of the Low Tatras are located in its western part. Ďumbier is the highest mountain at 2,042 m AMSL. Its neighbour Chopok (2,024 m) is accessible by a chairlift, and it is the most visited place in the Low Tatras. Other peaks in the western part include Dereše (2,004 m) and Chabenec (1,955 m).
