Glastonbury, Connecticut
Glastonbury ( ) is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States, formally founded in 1693 and first settled in 1636. It was named after Glastonbury in Somerset, England. Glastonbury is on the banks of the Connecticut River, southeast of Hartford, Connecticut, Hartford. The town center is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP). Hopewell School (Taunton, Massachusetts)
The Hopewell School is a historic school building located on Monroe Street in Taunton, Massachusetts. It was built in 1914, and designed by the Boston firm of Kilham & Hopkins in the Renaissance Revival style. The school replaced a previous school of the same name located around the corner on Bay Street in the Whittenton section of the city. The school is a three-story brick building, with terra cotta and stone trim elements. It has projecting end bays, with its entrance in a central section that projects only slightly. The entrance is trimmed in terra cotta, while windows have limestone trim, with those on the second floor sporting keystone lintels. The building is capped by a limestone cornice, above which stands a brick parapet. Some of its windows have been filled in with brick. The building was constructed utilizing the most up-to-date fireproof construction methods and materials known at the time, by the Boston engineering firm of Richardson & Hale. Hopewell, Covington County, Mississippi
Hopewell is an unincorporated community in Covington County, Mississippi, United States. History One of the oldest settlements in Covington County, one of Hopewell's earliest settlers was Thomas Ates, who bought land from the Choctaw Natives. Ben and Mary Duckworth were also early settlers, and named the town after the Biblical account of Moses' and Abraham's definition of hope: "to trust, expect, await, and endure". Many emancipated slaves settled in Hopewell after the Civil War. The New Hopewell School was constructed in 1885, and was located several miles north of the town, at the present site of the New Hopewell Church and Cemetery. The school operated until 1950. In 1922, Covington County authorities created the Hopewell Colored Separate School District in response to petitions by black citizens for improved educational opportunities. Hopewell School, also known as the Hopewell-Rosenwald School, is a former African American school in Cedar Creek, Texas, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 15, 2015. The school was built in 1921–1922 with assistance from the Rosenwald Fund. The school opened in 1922 and closed in the late 1950s. The school was initially funded by a monetary and a land grant from Martin and Sophia MacDonald of Bastrop County and the Rosenwald Fund. It was built by local residents to educate young African American children during the early to mid 1900s, a time of racial segregation in the United States. Restoration After the school closed, the building fell into disrepair. In 2015, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative awarded a $50,000 capital grant to the Hopewell-Rosenwald Community School Project to help convert the building into a community center. Hopewell Avenue Public School is a public elementary/middle school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It teaches grades jk-8. With a student population of about 950, it is the second largest K-8 school in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, after Broadview Public School. History The school was constructed in 1910. In 1982 the old building was expanded with a new section of approximately the same size. In 2015 the emerald ash beetle destroyed more than half of the trees in both yards. Later that year the school started a campaign called Every Leaf Counts to raise $200,000 for a new yard. About Hopewell is a four-story school with two gymnasiums. The Central Gym can be split into two, creating three: the North, Central and South gyms. The school follows the Balanced School Day model; the day is split into three blocks of 100 minutes each, separated by 40 minute nutritional/recess breaks.
