In England and Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland, an urban district was a type of local government district that covered an urbanised area. Urban districts had an elected urban district council (UDC), which shared local government responsibilities with a county council. Chester Rural District
Chester was a rural district of Cheshire, England, from 1894 to 1974. It was located near the city and county borough of Chester but did not include it. The district saw various boundary changes throughout its life. It included the small civil parish of Chester Castle, an exclave of the rural district within the boundaries of the county borough of Chester. Creation The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894 as the successor to Chester Rural Sanitary District.
