Hong Kong Open (badminton)
The Hong Kong Open is an annual badminton tournament held in Hong Kong since 1982, but it did not take place annually. It is organized by Hong Kong Badminton Association and it became one of the Super Series tournament in 2007. In 2008, Wang Chen became the first home player to win the Hong Kong Open title. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racket (sports equipment), racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net (device), net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Steen Fladberg
Steen Fladberg is a retired male badminton player from Denmark, noted for his speed of foot, who excelled during the 1980s. Though a strong international level singles player, his biggest achievements came in doubles. Career Fladberg won the gold medal at the 1983 IBF World Championships in men's doubles with Jesper Helledie, defeating Mike Tredgett and Martin Dew 15–10, 15–10 in the final. He was a silver medalist at the same tournament in mixed doubles with Pia Nielsen. He also won at the 1986 European Badminton Championships in men's doubles with Helledie, and the 1988 European Badminton Championships in mixed doubles with England's Gillian Clark. Lee Young-suk
Lee Young-suk (; born 9 May 1970) is a retired South Korean badminton player who affiliates with Busan City Hall since 1988. She is considered one of the most talented women's players with her exceptional speed around the court and power. She was the champion at the 1987 Denmark Open The Denmark Open, or formerly known as Danish Open, is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Badminton Denmark. Icuk Sugiarto (born 4 October 1962) is an Indonesian former badminton player. Career Largely a speed and power player, Sugiarto won the gold medal at the 1983 IBF World Championships, upsetting fellow countryman Liem Swie King in the final, and the bronze medal at the 1987 and 1989 IBF World Championships. He captured singles titles at the Indonesia (1982, 1986, 1988), Malaysia (1984), Thailand (1984, 1985), French (1988), and Hong Kong (1988) Opens; at the Badminton World Cup (1985, 1986); and at the Southeast Asian Games (three consecutive times) in 1985, 1987, and 1989. Chung So-young (; born 20 February 1967) is a former badminton player from South Korea. She was a gold medalist at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 in the women's doubles together with Hwang Hye-young, and was inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame in 2003. Career Noted for his solid, consistent play, Xiong rarely suffered lopsided defeats.
