The Hong Kong Film Award for ''Best Asian Chinese Language Film'' is an annual Hong Kong industry award presented for a film considered the best of the year. In order to be eligible for the award films must be in a Chinese language and have either at least one film company legally registered in Asia Region or at least one distribution company legally registered in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA; ), founded in 1982, is an annual film awards ceremony in Hong Kong. The ceremonies are typically in April. The awards recognise achievement in various aspects of filmmaking, such as directing, screenwriting, acting and cinematography. The awards are the Hong Kong equivalent to the American Academy Awards. Hu Bo (; 20 July 1988 – 12 October 2017), also known by his pen name Hu Qian (), was a Chinese novelist and film director, best known for his only feature film ''An Elephant Sitting Still'' (2018), which garnered widespread praise from critics. He died by suicide on 12 October 2017 at the age of 29, soon after he finished that film. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Management from National Chiao Tung University and Master of Social Science from Tunghai University.
