Honduran Revolutionary Democratic Party
The Revolutionary Democratic Party of Honduras ( es, Partido Democratico Revolucionario de Honduras) was a political party in Honduras. It was formed by members of the short lived Partido Democratico Revolucionario (formed in 1946) and non-Marxist but left leaning members of the Liberal Party of Honduras, Honduran Liberal Party in San Pedro Sula in 1948. Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Liberal Party Of Honduras
The Liberal Party of Honduras ( Spanish: ''Partido Liberal de Honduras)'' is a centrist liberal political party in Honduras that was founded in 1891. It is the oldest extant political party in the country, and one of the two main parties that have until recently dominated Honduran politics. The party is a member of the Liberal International. The PLH is identified with the colours red and white, as the flag Francisco Morazán used in most of his military campaigns during time of the Central American Federal Republic. San Pedro Sula () is the capital of Cortés Department, Honduras. General Strike Of 1954 (Honduras)
The general strike of 1954 was a watershed political and economic event in the history of Honduras that ushered in widespread change. When former United Fruit Company lawyer Juan Manuel Gálvez became president in 1954, following the contested election of 1953, he surprised everyone by adopting a pro-labor stance, introducing, among other things, an 8-hour work day, including extra pay for work on holidays. This has been widely interpreted as an attempt by Gálvez to build a larger electoral base. In April 1954, banana workers employed by United Fruit began a wildcat strike in the northern town of Tela, primarily over pay issues. In May, dockworkers in Puerto Cortés demanded double pay for holiday work, in accordance with the law. Communist Party of Honduras ( es, Partido Comunista de Honduras) was a communist party in Honduras. PCH was refounded on October 10, 1954 by Ramos Dionisio Bejarano and Rigoberto Padilla Rush.
