Home Hill is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Burdekin, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Home Hill had a population of 2,954 people. At the delta of the Burdekin River, it is a sugarcane growing area with underground water supplies to irrigate crops. Badilla is a neighbourhood in the south of the locality (). Geography Home Hill lies approximately south of Townsville and north of the state capital Brisbane on the Bruce Highway. It is a part of the Shire of Burdekin which includes the town of Ayr to the north. Both towns are governed by the Burdekin Shire Council. The Burdekin River forms the locality's north-western boundary. The town is situated centrally within the locality surrounded by crop farming. Bruce Highway
The Bruce Highway is a major highway in Queensland, Australia. Commencing in the state capital, Brisbane, it passes through areas close to the eastern coast on its way to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The route is part of the Australian National Highway and also part of Highway 1, the longest highway route in Australia. Its length is approximately ; it is entirely sealed with bitumen. The highway is named after a popular former Queensland and federal politician, Harry Bruce. Bruce was the state Minister for Works in the mid-1930s when the highway was named after him. Battle Of Inkerman
The Battle of Inkerman was fought during the Crimean War on 5 November 1854 between the allied armies of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Britain and Second French Empire, France against the Imperial Russian Empire, Russian Army. The Indigenous languages of Australia number in the hundreds, the precise number being quite uncertain, although there is a range of estimates from a minimum of around 250 (using the technical definition of 'language' as non-mutually intelligible varieties) up to possibly 363. Yuru Language
The Lower Burdekin languages were probably three distinct Australian Aboriginal languages spoken around the mouth of the Burdekin River in north Queensland. Home Hill Railway Station
Home Hill railway station is on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia, serving the town of Home Hill. It has one platform, with a passing loop across from it. Home Hill and Ayr are the two closest stations, 11 kilometres apart. History The North Coast railway line from Bobawaba to Townsville opened in 1913 and Home Hill railway station opened as part of it, for passengers and the sale of produce. By the 1970s, improvements to roads and the rising use of motor vehicles saw rail services in the region under threat of reduction or even closure. Rail motor service to Townsville ceased and in 1993 staff numbers at the Home Hill station were reduced. In 2003 the station and its goods shed was closed. However, the trains continue to stop at the station for passengers to board and disembark, under the supervision of the train crew rather than station staff. The North Coast railway line is a 1067 mm railway line in Queensland, Australia. It commences at Roma Street station, Brisbane, and largely parallels the Queensland coast to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The line is electrified between Brisbane and Rockhampton. Burdekin Bridge
The Burdekin Bridge (known as the Burdekin River Bridge or Silver Link) spans the Burdekin River between the towns of Ayr (locality of McDesme) to the north and Home Hill to the south, both in the Shire of Burdekin, Queensland, Australia. Located on the Bruce Highway which is part of Highway 1, it is an important link in the national road network. It is a road-rail bridge which provides high flood immunity link between north and south Queensland. The Bridge was completed in 1957. Construction began 10 years earlier in 1947. At in length, it is one of the longest multi-span bridges in Australia and longer than Brisbane's Story Bridge or New South Wales's Hawkesbury River Railway Bridge.
