Home Care (film)
''Home Care'' ( cs, Domácí péče) is a 2015 Czech-Slovak drama film directed by Slávek Horák. The film was selected as the Czech entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards but it was not nominated. Plot Vlasta is a home nurse who selflessly lives in the countryside in South Moravia for her patients; her husband; and her daughter, Lada. One day, their lives drastically changed when Vlasta becomes sick, and help from outside is needed. Through the daughter of one of her patients, she tries alternative medicine, much to the dismay of her husband, who has little confidence in it. Slávek Horák
Slávek Horák (born 12 January 1975 in Zlín) is a Czech film director, screenwriter and actor. He is a graduate of Zlin Film School and also studied directing at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). His rapid career growth as a director of various international commercial campaigns prevented him from finishing his FAMU studies, but also earned him several awards at International Advertising festivals. He shot two short films for international project Straight8 that were selected in top six and shown at the Cannes Film Festival. He also worked as an assistant director with Jan Sverak on his Academy Award winning film '' Kolja'' (1996). In 2012 he started his own production company TVORBA films. The Czech Republic has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1994 (after the split of Czechoslovakia in January 1993). However, there were also Czech films submitted by Czechoslovakia before it ceased to exist in 1992. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. This is a list of submissions to the 88th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Nine shortlisted contenders were revealed a week before the announcement of the Oscar nominations. Palm Springs International Film Festival (sometimes stylized shortly as PSIFF) is a film festival held in Palm Springs, California.
