The Stations of the Cross or the Way of the Cross, also known as the Way of Sorrows or the Via Crucis, refers to a series of images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of Crucifixion of Jesus, his crucifixion and accompanying prayers. The stations grew out of imitations of the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem, which is a traditional processional route symbolising the actual path Jesus walked to Mount Calvary. WACE (730 kHz) is a currently silent AM radio radio station broadcasting a mixed Christian radio and infomercial radio format. Licensed to Chicopee, Massachusetts, United States, the station served the Springfield radio market and has been permitted to identify itself as "Chicopee-Springfield" since 1969. The station was owned by Carter Broadcasting. History On December 1, 1946, WACE first signed on the air. It was owned by the Regional Broadcasting Company on Chicopee Street in Chicopee. WACE was a daytimer, broadcasting at 1,000 watts by day. But because AM 730 is a clear channel frequency, reserved for CKAC in Montreal and XEX in Mexico City, WACE had to sign-off at sunset to prevent interference. WQOM (1060 AM) is a radio station broadcasting Catholic radio programming in the Boston market. The station is owned by Holy Family Communications and is licensed to Natick, Massachusetts. History The station first began operation November 12, 1972, as WGTR, owned by John Garabedian. It was a full service daytime station for Natick and MetroWest, programming top-40 music. WGTR originally from a small tower in a residential area of Natick. However, Garabedian had long hoped to expand WGTR into Boston itself. In 1980, he won a construction permit to move to a five-tower setup in Ashland, operating at 25,000 watts during the day. This gave it adequate coverage of most of the Boston area.
