Holmen (Drammen)
Holmen, formerly also Møllerholmen, is an 0.6 km2 island at the mouth of the river Drammenselva in Drammen, Viken, Norway, and the only remaining island in downtown Drammen. History Historical records from 400 years ago reveal that the island was just a sand bank, but over the years since, it has grown substantially, first due to the post-glacial rebound, but foremost due to artificial mass deposits. Some of the mass comes from infrastructure projects (tunnel excavations) near Drammen. Future deposits will increase the island's area to 0.9 km2. The western tip of the island, called Holmenokken, is a public park where midsummer bonfires have been lit in later years. Drammenselva
Drammenselva ( en, Drammen River) is a river in Buskerud county, southeastern Norway. Location Drammenselva is one of the largest rivers in Norway, with a drainage basin of about and a discharge of per second. Drammen River's total length is making it the fifth longest river in Norway. Its 48 km course runs from Tyrifjorden in the north to Drammensfjord in the south, where it cuts through the centre of the city of Drammen. The Drammen River gathers inflow from several streams and rivers. The largest include the Simoa River. The whole drainage system which includes the Drammenselva as the lowest part is known as Drammensvassdraget and is located in the provinces of Oppland and Buskerud. Drammen
Drammen () is a city and municipality in Viken (county), Viken, Norway. The port and river city of Drammen is centrally located in the south-eastern and most populated part of Norway. Drammen municipality also includes smaller towns and villages such as Konnerud, Svelvik, Mjøndalen and Skoger. Viken (county)
Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority. Bragernes is one of the central areas of the city of Drammen in Viken, Norway. Location Bragernes is located on the northern side of the Drammen River (''Drammenselva'') and contains the famous town square Bragernes square (''Bragernes Torg''), the town hall, the Drammen Theatre (''Drammens Teater''), Drammen park, and most of the shopping and nightlife in Drammen. Strømsø
Strømsø is a borough of Drammen, Viken, Norway. Strømsø is located at the southern side of the river Drammenselva. Until about 1600, Stømsø was an island surrounded by the Drammenselva, but was later made landfast. In 1728 Strømsø was granted rights as a trade center by the king, and these rights were expanded to full trade rights in 1745. In 1811 Strømsø and Bragernes (on the northern side of Drammenselva) were united to form the town of Drammen. Strømsø has sports facilities, retail, office, industry and schools. Most of Strømsø consists of residential areas. The Drammen Bridge ( no, Drammensbrua) is a motorway box girder bridge that crosses Drammenselva river in the town of Drammen in Norway. It is the longest road bridge in Norway, long. The bridge has 41 spans; the longest span is . The maximum clearance to the water is . The Drammen Bridge was opened in 1975 with two lanes. A parallel bridge was finished in 2005 with two more lanes. The new bridge has round, slim pillars, while the old one had wide, rectangular pillars.
