Carl Fredrik Holmboe
Carl Fredrik Holmboe (25 August 1882 – 15 January 1960) was a Norwegian engineer and business executive. Biography He was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway as the only son of Jens Anton Holmboe (1828-92) and his third wife Marie Aarreberg (1842-1917). He had several half-brothers and half-sisters. His grandfather Leonhard Christian Borchgrevink Holmboe was a priest and national politician. Holmboe studied electrical and mechanical engineering in Germany. Subsequently he was a consultant for several Norwegian based companies. He first made his mark by producing the technologically advanced factory at Fredrikstad for the company Denofa. In 1915 he was hired as chief engineer in the company Lever Brothers, being promoted to technical director in 1921. Jørgen Holmboe (November 8, 1902 – October 29, 1979) was a Norwegian-American meteorologist. Arnold Holmboe
Arnold Holmboe (11 March 1873 – 27 July 1956) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. He was mayor of Tromsø, two-term member of the Norwegian Parliament as well as Minister of Justice from 1922 to 1923 and Minister of Finance from 1924 to 1926. Christopher Andreas Holmboe
Christopher Andreas Holmboe (19 March 1796– 2 April 1882) was a Norwegian philologist, orientalist and numismatist. Holmboe was born at Vang in Oppland, Norway. He was son of parish priest Jens Holmboe and brother of mathematician Bernt Michael Holmboe. He attended the Oslo Cathedral School and graduated as cand.theol. in 1818. Bernt Michael Holmboe
Bernt Michael Holmboe (23 March 1795 – 28 March 1850) was a Norwegian mathematician. He was home-tutored from an early age, and was not enrolled in school until 1810. Following a short period at the Royal Frederick University, which included a stint as assistant to Christopher Hansteen, Holmboe was hired as a mathematics teacher at the Christiania Cathedral School in 1818, where he met the future renowned mathematician Niels Henrik Abel. Holmboe's lasting impact on mathematics worldwide has been said to be his tutoring of Abel, both in school and privately. The two became friends and remained so until Abel's early death. Holmboe moved to the Royal Frederick University in 1826, where he worked until his own death in 1850. Holmboe's significant impact on mathematics in the fledgling Norway was his textbook in two volumes for secondary schools. Tone Alis Groven Holmboe (9 January 1930 – 10 June 2020) was a Norwegian composer and teacher. Personal life She was the second daughter of composer and innovator Eivind Groven, and teacher and singer Ragna Groven.
