Holly Lerski
Holly Lerski (born Holly Elmhirst, 13 November 1969) is an English singer and songwriter known both for her work with Angelou and for her solo career. Biography Coming to public attention in the late 1990s with folk rock band Angelou this Norfolk based singer-songwriter earned comparisons to Jeff Buckley and Beth Orton. Her music has also been featured in the American TV show '' Close to Home'' and the indie film ''Fish Without a Bicycle'', starring Jenna Mattison, Brian Austin Green and Jennifer Blanc. Lerski was born in London, daughter of a sound engineer and ex- St Martins School of Art student. She grew up around music, and began playing guitar at the age of six. When she was nine her family relocated to Norfolk. It was in this transitional period, with the aid of her 'Beatles Complete' book, Lerski first began to write songs. Angelou (band)
Angelou was an English folk rock band formed in 1996 by singer-songwriter Holly Lerski with guitarist Jo Baker, the duo taking the band's name from the author Maya Angelou or also known as Marguerite Annie Johnson . Angelou debuted on Boo Hewerdine's independent record label Haven Records in 1997 with the "Hallelujah" EP. Joined by Phil Di Palma and Chris Evans, they followed this up with two critically acclaimed albums, ''Automiracles'' (1998) and ''While You Were Sleeping'' (2000). Angelou toured Spain extensively in 2001, promoting their Spanish 'best of' release, ''Midnight Witcheries'', with new members Cath Evans and Ann Richardson. "Hallelujah!" is a song by former Frankie Goes to Hollywood singer Holly Johnson, which was released in 1998 as a promotional single and included on his third studio album '' Soulstream'' (1999). The song was written by Johnson (lyrics and music) and Nick Bagnall (music). Background In a 1998 interview, Johnson said of the song's message, "'Hallelujah' is a sort of spiritual, universal love song. It's for the disenfranchised, people who feel they're not able to relate to orthodox religion, but also feel that there is something out there that is positive and good. The Living Room was a music venue on Metropolitan Avenue in the Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, which was originally established on Stanton Street of the Lower East Side in Manhattan, New York City in 1988. Paul Christopher Walters (15 June 1947 – 21 October 2006) was a BBC radio and TV producer, best known for his work and appearances on Terry Wogan's BBC Radio 2 breakfast show ''Wake Up to Wogan'' from 1995 until a few months before his death in 2006, where he was known to millions as "Dr Wally Poultry".
