Holeby Municipality
Holeby was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') on the island of Lolland in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 116 km², and had a total population of 3,982 (2005). Its last mayor was Bjarne Larsen. The main town and the seat of its municipal council was the town of Holeby. Neighboring municipalities were Nysted to the east, Maribo and Sakskøbing to the north, and Rødby to the west. To the south was the Baltic Sea and the Fehmarn Belt. On 1 January 2007 Holeby municipality ceased to exist as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It merged with the municipalities of Højreby, Maribo, Nakskov, Ravnsborg, Rudbjerg and Rødby to form the new Lolland municipality. Danish Language
Danish (; , ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, principally in and around Denmark. Fehmarn
Fehmarn (, da, Femern; from Old Wagrian Slavic "''Fe More''", meaning "''In the Sea''") is an island in the Baltic Sea, off the eastern coast of Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is Germany's third-largest island, after Rügen and Usedom. Fehmarn is separated from the German peninsula of Wagria in Holsatia by the Fehmarn Sound, and from the southern Danish island of Lolland by the Fehmarn Belt. Region Sjælland
Region Zealand ( da, Region Sjælland) is the southernmost administrative region of Denmark, established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which abolished the traditional counties ("amter") and set up five larger regions. Lolland Municipality
Lolland municipality (on the island of Lolland) is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Sjælland in Denmark. According to ''Municipal And Regional Key Figures'' (www.noegletal.dk) it covers a total area of 885.40 km² (341.85 square miles) and has a population of 40,022 (1 March 2022;45.20 inh./sq.km/117.06/sq.mi.). The western part of Guldborgsund Municipality, the southernmost in Denmark, occupies the eastern part of the island (''Østlolland''). Until 1 January 2007 Rudbjerg was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') on the southwest coast of the island of Lolland in the former Storstrøm County, southern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 143 km², and had a total population of 3,432 (2005). Its last mayor was Tom Larsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. Ravnsborg
Until 1 January 2007 Ravnsborg was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') on the northwest coast of the island of Lolland in the former Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality, including the islands of Fejø and Femø, covered an area of 198 km², and had a total population of 5,569 (2005). Its last mayor was Stig Vestergård, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Horslunde. Ferry service connects the former municipality to Langeland from a harbour west of the town of Sandby, and to the islands of Fejø and Femø from the town of Kragenæs. Nakskov
Nakskov is a town in south Denmark. It is situated in Lolland municipality in Region Sjælland on the western coast of the island of Lolland. The town has a population of 12,495 (1 January 2022). To the west is Nakskov Fjord, an inlet from the Langeland Belt (''Langelandsbælt'') that runs between the islands of Lolland and Langeland. Nakskov Fjord is a wildlife reserve, known for its bird life. History Nakskov is in the inner part of the Western inlet of Lolland, one of the agriculturally richest of the Danish islands. Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that is enclosed by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the North and Central European Plain.
