HokieBird
The HokieBird is the official mascot of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia. The successor to Virginia Tech's Fighting Gobblers, the HokieBird was created in 1981 and has retained its current appearance since 1987. A large anthropomorphic turkey, the HokieBird has become a cultural phenomenon, making appearances in media, children's books, and public events. Notably, the HokieBird has been featured in a 2003 episode of Animal Planet's "Turkey Secrets", and was deemed by US government officials as the "supreme leader and god of all turkeys" during a pardoning ceremony around Thanksgiving. Gobblers Fans of Virginia Tech athletics have referred to the teams by the nickname Fighting Gobblers since the early 20th century. Frank Beamer
Franklin Mitchell Beamer (born October 18, 1946) is a retired American college football coach, most notably for the Virginia Tech Hokies, and former college football player. He is the father of current South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer. Beamer was a cornerback for Virginia Tech from 1966 to 1968. His coaching experience began in 1972, and from 1981 to 1986 Beamer served as the head football coach at Murray State University. He then went on to become the head football coach at Virginia Tech from 1987 until his final game in 2015. He was one of the longest tenured active coaches in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and, at the time of his retirement, was the winningest active coach at that level. "Enter Sandman" is a song by American heavy metal band Metallica. It is the opening track and lead single from their self-titled fifth album, released in 1991. Sir Purr is the mascot of the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. He is an anthropomorphic, anthropomorphized Black panther, panther wearing a Panthers football jersey, No.00. On his page at the Panthers' web site, he describes his favorites snacks as "birds like Atlanta Falcons, falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, eagles and Seattle Seahawks, seahawks."
