Hoi Lai Estate
Hoi Lai Estate () is a public housing estate in Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon, Hong Kong, built on the reclaimed land of south Cheung Sha Wan, near Lai Chi Kok station and four private housing estates, namely Aqua Marine, Banyan Garden, Liberté and The Pacifica. The estate consists of 12 residential buildings and a shopping centre completed between 2004 and 2005. It was planned for HOS court, but it was changed to rental housing before it was occupied. Houses Demographics According to the 2016 by-census, Hoi Lai Estate had a population of 16,901. The median age was 38.8 and the majority of residents (96.9 per cent) were of Chinese ethnicity. The average household size was 3.5 people. The median monthly household income of all households (i.e. including both economically active and inactive households) was HK$27,640. Sham Mong Road
Sham Mong Road () is a major road on the new reclamation of the 1990s in western Kowloon and New Kowloon of Hong Kong. Location The road starts from Cherry Street near HSBC Centre and MTR Olympic station in Tai Kok Tsui, and ends in the former site of incinerator at the junction of Yuet Luen Street and Lai Po Road in Lai Chi Kok. Home Ownership Scheme
The Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) is a subsidised-sale public housing programme managed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority. It was instituted in the late 1970s as part of the government policy for public housing with two aims – to encourage better-off tenants of rental flats to vacate those flats for re-allocation to families in greater housing need; and also to provide an opportunity for home ownership to families unable to afford to buy in the private sector. Under the scheme, the government sells flats to eligible public housing tenants and to lower-income residents at prices below the market level, with discounts usually between 30 and 40 per cent. It restricts resale of the units in the second-hand market to other families who qualify or, on the open market, after payment of a premium equal to the updated value of the discount given on the original purchase. Cheung Sha Wan
Cheung Sha Wan is an area between Lai Chi Kok and Sham Shui Po in New Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is mainly residential to the north and south, with an industrial area in between. Administratively it is part of Sham Shui Po District, which also includes Lai Chi Kok. History As its Chinese name suggests, it was formerly a bay with a long sandy beach. It spans roughly from today's Butterfly Valley Road at the west to Yen Chow Street at the east. The beach was a gathering place for many Tanka fishermen before its development. The original shoreline approximates the present Castle Peak Road and Un Chau Street.
