Mark Hoban
Mark Gerard Hoban (born 31 March 1964) is a British politician. A member of the Conservative Party, he is a former Member of Parliament for Fareham (2001–2015) and former Minister of State for Work and Pensions (2012–2013). Early life Hoban was born in Peterlee and was educated at St Leonard's Catholic School in Durham. He graduated from the London School of Economics where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in economics in 1985. He joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1985 as a financial analyst, becoming a chartered account manager in 1990, and was appointed as a senior manager in 1992 until his election to Parliament. Parliamentary career Hoban joined the Conservative Party in 1980, and in 1989 was elected as the treasurer of the Southampton Itchen Conservative Association, serving until he was elected as the Association's vice chairman for two years in 1991. Lillian Hoban
Lillian Hoban (May 18, 1925 – July 17, 1998) was an American illustrator and children's writer best known for picture books created with her husband Russell Hoban. According to OCLC, she has published 326 works in 1,401 publications in 11 languages. Biography Lillian Hoban born in Philadelphia and was the youngest of three sisters. She attended the Philadelphia High School for Girls. She was always interested in art and wanted to become an artist. Archbishop Hoban High School
Archbishop Hoban High School is a Catholic college-preparatory school in Akron, Ohio. It is sponsored by the Catholic religious order Brothers of Holy Cross. History In the early 1950s, Archbishop Edward F. Hoban invited the Brothers of Holy Cross to staff a new high school in Akron to be named in his honor. Hoban is the third Holy Cross high school in the Diocese of Cleveland, along with Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills and St. Edward High School in Lakewood. In 1953, Archbishop Hoban High School opened. In 1966 a group of students installed "The Big White Word", a set of hillside letters spelling "HOBAN", near the school along Interstate 80S (now Interstate 76). ''Jerry on the Job'' was a comic strip by cartoonist Walter Hoban which was set in a railroad station. Syndicated by William Randolph Hearst's International Feature Service, it ran from 1913 into the 1930s. Origins When Hoban was given only a weekend to devise a comic strip, he created ''Jerry on the Job'', about pint-size Jerry Flannigan, initially employed as an office boy and then in a variety of other jobs. The strip was launched on December 29, 1913. Walter C. Hoban (1890 - November 22, 1939) was an American cartoonist best known for his comic strip ''Jerry on the Job''. Born in Philadelphia, Hoban came from a newspaper family. His brother Edwin was with ''The Philadelphia Inquirer'', and his father was the city editor and a political and editorial writer with the ''Public Ledger (Philadelphia), Philadelphia Public Ledger''. The young Hoban attended parochial schools and Saint Joseph's University, Saint Joseph's College, but he dropped out in 1907 to take a job at Philadelphia's ''North American'' newspaper, as he recalled, "There I made borders for pictures of the 'murdered man' et al. Russell Conwell Hoban (February 4, 1925 – December 13, 2011) was an American expatriate writer. His works span many genres, including fantasy, science fiction, mainstream fiction, magical realism, poetry, and children's books. He lived in London from 1969 until his death. Biography Hoban was born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia, to Jewish immigrants from Ostrog (now in Ukraine). His father, Abram T. Hoban, was the advertising manager of the Yiddish-language ''Jewish Daily Forward'' and the director of The Drama Guild of the Labor Institute of the Workmen's Circle of Philadelphia. His father died when Russell was 11, and Russell was thereafter raised by his mother, Jeanette Dimmerman. He was named for Russell Conwell. Ovidiu Ștefan Hoban (born 27 December 1982) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Liga I club CFR Cluj. International career Hoban made his international debut against Trinidad & Tobago, playing the second half of a friendly game on 4 June 2013. Barry Hoban
Barry Hoban (born 5 February 1940) is a former English professional cyclist who rode during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He formerly held the record for the most stage wins in the Tour de France by a British rider, winning eight between 1967 and 1975. He holds the record (now shared with David Millar) for the most Tours completed by a British rider – having finished 11 of the 12 he started between 1965 and 1978. He was also the first Briton to win two consecutive stages of the Tour (a feat matched by Mark Cavendish in 2008, twice in 2009 and once in 2010, and by Geraint Thomas in 2018). Early career Hoban started cycle racing in 1955, joining Calder Clarion, and by the end of the year was competing against Tom Simpson in individual time trials. Edward Francis Hoban (June 27, 1878 – September 22, 1966) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland in Ohio from 1945 to 1966. He previously served as bishop of the Diocese of Rockford in Illinois from 1928 to 1942 and as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago in Illinois from 1921 to 1928. In 1952, Pope Pius XII gave Hoban the personal title of archbishop.
