Hjalmar Lundbohm
Johan Olof Hjalmar Lundbohm (25 April 1855 – 4 April 1926) was a Swedish geologist and chemist and the first managing director of LKAB (''Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag'') in Kiruna. He made a strong contribution to the design of the new community of Kiruna in Lapland. Biography Hjalmar Lundbohm was born in Ödeborg parish in Dalsland, Sweden. Lundbohm graduated in 1877 in technical chemistry and road and water construction at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. Lundbohm was employed at the Swedish Geological Survey in 1879. Became an assistant geologist in 1885 and appointed a regular geologist in the years 1887-1902. In 1898 Lundbohm got a job as site manager at Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB) based in Kiruna. In 1900, he was appointed manager of LKAB's mining operations in Luossajärvi. Carl Wilhelmson
Carl Wilhelm Wilhelmson (12 November 1866, Fiskebäckskil – 24 September 1928, Gothenburg) was a Swedish painter, graphic artist, amateur photographer and art teacher. Biography His father, Anders Wilhelmson, was a "Bästeman" (a type of Naval Master), who died in a shipwreck in 1875. His mother, Amalia, opened a small shop to support the family. Some relatives were in the printing business so, in 1881, he was apprenticed to the lithographers Meyer & Köster in Gothenburg. He also took evening classes at the School of Design and Crafts. He later became a full-time student of Carl Larsson at the Valand Academy. In 1888, on the recommendation of Larsson and his former employers, he was awarded a scholarship from the Kommerskollegium that enabled him to travel to Leipzig. While there, he worked for several notable lithography firms. Despite this, he remained undecided as to whether he should pursue a career in lithography or strike out on his own as an artist. Grängesberg
Grängesberg () is a locality situated in Ludvika Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden, with 3,481 inhabitants in 2010. The town was dominated by iron-ore extraction at Grängesberg ore field (Grängesbergs malmfält) from the 16th century to 1989. In January 1990 was the last ore-train from Grängesberg to Oxelösund. Attempts to separate apatite from the ore begun in 1928 but were more clearly successful from the late 1930s to 1953. Aparite was separated by "soap flotation" ( sv, tvålflotation). Grängesbergsbolaget had during a long period the world's largest iron-ore fleet and by 1899–1900 was it Sweden's most profitable company. During this time Grängesberg grew very fast, and during a 10-year period the town's population increased threefold. Today Spendrups is Grängesberg's biggest employer. Iron Ore Line
The Iron Ore Line ( sv, Malmbanan) is a long railway line between Riksgränsen and Boden in Norrbotten County, Sweden, owned by Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration). The line also contains two branches, from Kiruna to Svappavaara and from Gällivare to Koskullskulle. The term is often colloquially used to also include the Ofoten Line, from Riksgränsen to Narvik in Norway, and the northernmost part of the Main Line Through Upper Norrland from Boden to Luleå. The railway from Narvik to Luleå is long. The line is dominated by the ore freight trains operated by LKAB's subsidiary Malmtrafik from their mines to the Port of Narvik and the Port of Luleå. ( se, Áhkanjárga) is the third-largest municipality in Nordland county, Norway, by population. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Narvik.
