House Of Louie
House of Louie was a Chinese restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Old Town Chinatown neighborhood, in the United States. The restaurant was managed by James Leung, as of 2006, and closed in 2018 after operating for 30 years. In 2023, the building which housed the restaurant was purchased by the nonprofit organization Sisters of the Road. The group plans to use the building for offices and a cafe, opening in June 2025. Chinese American Women's Suffrage In Oregon
Initial phase In 1912, in response to the suffrage movements in China, the United States, and the Pacific Northwest, Chinese American women in Portland, Oregon, established an equal suffrage society with S. K. Chan as its president. They were responsible for mobilizing Portland's Chinese neighborhoods during Oregon's suffrage movement. At the time, however, Chinese immigrants were not allowed to become naturalized citizens and were intentionally denied the right of suffrage in the Oregon Constitution. 1912 and S. K. Chan On April 11, 1912, seven Portland Chinese women, among them S. K. Chan, attended a banquet in honor of La Reine Helen Baker at the Portland Hotel as part of 150 equal suffrage workers. As noted in a news article from the ''Oregonian'' published on April 12, 1912, "The presence of the Chinese women at a banquet with white women is unique." XLB is a Chinese restaurant in Portland, Oregon, United States. Second-generation Chinese chef Jasper Shen opened the original restaurant along North Williams Avenue in the Boise neighborhood in January 2017. He and new business partner Laura Tran opened a second in northwest Portland's Slabtown district in 2019. The Slabtown restaurant closed in 2021.
