The Hirtshals railway line ( da, Hirtshalsbanen) is a long standard gauge single track railway line between Hjørring and Hirtshals, Denmark. The railway links the fishing and ferry port of Hirtshals with the Danish rail network. The railway line opened in 1925. It is currently owned and operated by the railway company Nordjyske Jernbaner (NJ) which runs frequent local train services from Hirtshals station to Hjørring station with onward connections from Hjørring to the rest of Denmark. History In 1915, the Danish Parliament agreed to build a new railway line between and on the Skagen Line with a possible branch line from to . The main line to Aalbæk was never constructed however, but the branch line to Hirtshals was built instead. Hjørring Station
Hjørring railway station ( da, Hjørring Banegård) is the main railway station serving the town of Hjørring in Vendsyssel, Denmark. Hjørring station is located on the Vendsyssel Line from Aalborg to Frederikshavn and is the terminus of the Hirtshalsbanen railway line from Hjørring to Hirtshals. The station opened in 1871. It offers direct regional rail services to Aalborg and Frederikshavn, as well as local train services to Hirtshals, both operated by Nordjyske Jernbaner. History The station opened in 1871 as the branch from Nørresundby to Frederikshavn of the new Nørresundby-Frederikshavn railway line opened on 16 August 1871. Nordjyske Jernbaner
Nordjyske Jernbaner (abbreviated NJ) is a Danish railway company operating in Region Nordjylland. The company was formed in 2001 as a merger of Hjørring Privatbaner (HP) and Skagensbanen (SB). Headquartered in Hjørring, the company is responsible for running the former HP and SB lines, i.e., Hjørring–Hirtshals and Frederikshavn–Skagen, respectively.
