Hirtshals Line
The Hirtshals railway line ( da, Hirtshalsbanen) is a long standard gauge single track railway line between Hjørring and Hirtshals, Denmark. The railway links the fishing and ferry port of Hirtshals with the Danish rail network. The railway line opened in 1925. It is currently owned and operated by the railway company Nordjyske Jernbaner (NJ) which runs frequent local train services from Hirtshals station to Hjørring station with onward connections from Hjørring to the rest of Denmark. History In 1915, the Danish Parliament agreed to build a new railway line between and on the Skagen Line with a possible branch line from to . The main line to Aalbæk was never constructed however, but the branch line to Hirtshals was built instead. Hirtshals Municipality
Hirtshals Municipality was a municipality ( da, kommune) in Denmark. It was located on the west and north coast of the Jutland peninsula and belonged to North Jutland County. It was abolished effective 1 January 2007. The municipal seat was located in the town of Hirtshals. Its last mayor was Knud Størup (independent). Geography The municipality covered an area of , and had a total population of 14,088 (2005). Besides Hirtshals, it covered the villages Tornby, Vidstrup, Asdal, Tuen, Bindslev, Tversted, Emmersbæk, Lilleheden and Horne. Hjørring Municipality
Hjørring Municipality is a municipality (Danish: '' kommune'') in North Jutland Region on the west coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , making it the largest in Vendsyssel, and it has a total population of 67,121 (2008). Its current mayor is Arne Boelt, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hjørring. Partnair Flight 394 was a chartered flight that crashed on 8 September 1989 off the coast of Denmark, north of Hirtshals. All fifty passengers and five crew members on board the aircraft died, making this the deadliest disaster in Danish aviation history. Sindal is a railway town on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. It has a population of 3,095 (1 January 2022) and is located in Hjørring Municipality in Region Nordjylland. Løkken-Vrå was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in the North Jutland County, Denmark until January 1, 2007. It was located on the northwest coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy on the northern Jutland peninsula. The municipality covered an area of , and had a total population of 8,828 (2005). The two main towns were Vrå and Løkken, where Vrå acted as the seat of the municipal council. Vendsyssel-Thy
The North Jutlandic Island (), Vendsyssel-Thy, or Jutland north of the Limfjord (''Jylland nord for Limfjorden''), is the northernmost part of Denmark and of Jutland. It is more common to refer to the three traditional districts Vendsyssel, Hanherred and Thy, however. The area has been intermittently a tied island, and during modern times was not surrounded by water until a storm in February 1825, which severed the region from the remainder of Jutland and caused a water connection between the North Sea and the western end of the Limfjord. Hence it is traditionally regarded as a part of Jutland rather than a separate island. Geographically, it is the second largest island of Denmark after Zealand (excluding Greenland) with a population of 294,424 on 1 January 2020. 309,834 lived on the island in 1981. Region Nordjylland
The North Jutland Region ( da, Region Nordjylland), or in some official sources, the North Denmark Region, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform, which abolished the traditional counties () and set up five larger regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the number of municipalities from 271 before 1 January 2006, when Ærø Municipality was created, to 98.
