Hinoki Village
The Hinoki Village or Cypress Forest Life Village () is a culture village in East District, Chiayi City, Taiwan. History The village was originally the dormitories of the Chiayi Forest division of Forestry Bureau of the Taiwan Governor General Office during the Japanese rule of Taiwan. On 26 February 2009, the Executive Yuan approved the establishment of the center. Construction commenced shortly and was completed in 2013. The transfer of operation of the village was completed on 28 September 2013. The village started its operation in January 2014. Architecture The village consists of 28 wooden Japanese-style dormitories and also Alishan Forest Club, director's official residence, guest house, public bathhouse etc. The construction of the village took the basis of the existing building in the area by renovating and dismantling the original partition walls of each building as an open space for landscaping or visitors. Chiayi City
Chiayi (, Taigi POJ: ''Ka-gī''; ), officially known as Chiayi City, is a city located in the plains of southwestern Taiwan. Formerly called ''Kagee'' during the late Qing dynasty and ''Kagi'' during the Japanese era (), its historical name is ''Tirosen''. History Early history First inhabited by the Hoanya aborigines, the region was named Tirosen (variants ''Tirocen'', ''Tiracen''). With the arrival of Han Chinese immigrants in southwestern Taiwan, the name evolved to become ''Tsulosan'' () in Hokkien. Eventually, Tsulosan was shortened to simply Tsulo. Because of the choice of the characters, it has been mistakenly suggested that the origin of the name came from the expression "mountains surrounding the east". Executive Yuan
The Executive Yuan () is the executive branch of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Its leader is the Premier, who is appointed by the President of the Republic of China, and requires confirmation by the Legislative Yuan. Under the amended constitution, the head of the Executive Yuan is the Premier who is positioned as the head of government and has the power to appoint members to serve in the cabinet, while the ROC President is the head of state under the semi-presidential system, who can appoint the Premier and nominate the members of the cabinet. Beimen Station (Alishan Forest Railway)
Beimen () (literally "North gate") is a railway station on the Forestry Bureau Alishan Forest Railway line located in East District, Chiayi City, Taiwan. History The station was opened on 1 October 1912. On 16 May 1998 the station caught in fire which resulted the 40% burning of station right side. The Chiayi Forest District Office then planned a budget to restore the station and restoration work with red cypress was completed on 7 November the same year. In August 1999, section of the railway between Fenqihu Station and Alishan Station was badly damaged by Typhoon Morakot. On 20 September 1999, it was damaged again by the 1999 Jiji earthquake. After restoration efforts, a successful trail run of the train between Beimen Station and Alishan Station was made on 16 September 2015. Alishan Forest Railway () is an 86 km network of narrow gauge railways running up to and throughout the popular mountain resort of Alishan in Chiayi County, Taiwan.
