Hilltop, Manitoba
Hilltop is a rural community in the Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson and is a mixed agricultural area. Historically, the area was settled by Scandinavian immigrants, mainly from Sweden, starting in the 1880s. The community opened a post office in 1900 located on 19-17-17W and a one-room school was located on NE 24-17-18W. The other establishment which still is operational is a Baptist church founded by the early settlers and named after the locality. The Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History The municipality was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Clanwilliam and the Town of Erickson. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. The Government of Manitoba initiated these amalgamations in order for municipalities to meet the 1997 minimum population requirement of 1,000 to incorporate a municipality. Scandinavia is a locality in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It is located in the northern portion of the Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson and south of Riding Mountain National Park Riding Mountain National Park is a national park in Manitoba, Canada. The Post Office was located on 7-18-17W and opened in 1886 with Jems Hemmingsen as postmaster. It closed in 1968. A School District of the same name was located on 6-18-17W. The locality's name likely came from the early settlers or the postmaster and referred to the Scandinavian settlers who were the first European people to inhabit the area.
