Peyton Hillis
Peyton Derek Hillis (born January 21, 1986) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL). Hillis attended Conway High School in Conway, Arkansas and was a highly touted recruit. Hillis attended the University of Arkansas where he was primarily used as a fullback. After being drafted in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Hillis rose to the top of the depth chart as the starting fullback for the Denver Broncos. Due to injuries to the running back corps, he became the starting running back. After spending two years in Denver, Hillis was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2010. William Daniel "Danny" Hillis (born September 25, 1956) is an American inventor, entrepreneur, and computer scientist, who pioneered parallel computers and their use in artificial intelligence. He founded Thinking Machines Corporation, a parallel supercomputer manufacturer, and subsequently was Vice President of Research and Disney Fellow at Walt Disney Imagineering. Hillis was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2001 for advances in parallel computers, parallel software, and parallel storage. More recently, Hillis co-founded Applied Minds and Applied Invention, an interdisciplinary group of engineers, scientists, and artists. He is a visiting professor at the MIT Media Lab. Newell Dwight Hillis (September 2, 1858 – February 25, 1929) was a Congregationalist minister, writer, and philosopher from Brooklyn. He served as pastor of the historic Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn, and he oversaw the completion of the last major renovation of the church. Biography Newell Dwight Hillis was born in Magnolia, Iowa, on September 2, 1858. His parents were Samuel Ewing and Margaret (Hester) Hillis. He graduated from Lake Forest University, Illinois, in 1884, and McCormick Theological Seminary in 1887. The same year he was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry. Llewellya Williams Hillis (1930 – March 23, 2019), later Llewellya Hillis-Colinvaux, was a Canadian-born American marine biologist. Early life Llewellya Hillis was born in Windsor, Ontario and raised in Walkerville. She graduated from Walkerville Collegiate Institute. Her father Llewellyn Hillis worked at an automotive plant, and her mother Pearl Evelina Hillis was a teacher. She earned her bachelor's degree at Queen's University in 1952. In 1957 she completed her doctoral work in botany at the University of Michigan; her thesis titled "A Revision of the Genus Halimeda (order Siphonales)" was published in 1959. As a graduate student, she did research at the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. David Mark Hillis (born December 21, 1958 in Copenhagen, Denmark) is an American evolutionary biologist, and the Alfred W. Roark Centennial Professor of Biology at the University of Texas at Austin. He is best known for his studies of molecular evolution, phylogeny, and vertebrate systematics. He created the popular Hillis Plot depiction of the evolutionary tree of life. Charles Richard Hillis (1913–2005) was an American Protestant Christian missionary to China, author, and founder of "Formosa Crusades", later "Orient Crusades" and "Overseas Crusades", now "OC International". Early life Hillis was born an American citizen in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, before the family moved to Monroe, Washington. Hillis was an adventurer. At the age of thirteen in 1926, Dick attended evangelistic meetings at the little Methodist church in town, where his mother served as chairman of the church’s missionary committee.
