Bernborough (1939–1960) was an outstanding Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who competed from 1941 to 1946. He carried heavy weights in 15 consecutive wins that included the Doomben 10,000 while carrying 10 stone 5 pounds. Bernborough was foaled at Rosalie Plains near the township of Oakey in the Darling Downs in Queensland. The bay colt was by the good sire Emborough (GB) from Bern Maid by Bernard (GB), who was the paternal grandson of Gainsborough, winner of the English Triple Crown in 1918. Racing record Bernborough first raced under the ownership of A.E.Hadwin. A Queensland trainer, J. Roberts, then leased the horse. He came to prominence racing at Toowoomba's Clifford Park when ridden to his first six wins by Les Watterson. Yaralla (foaled 1938) was an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who raced for 5 seasons from a two-year-old to a six-year-old recording major wins from 5 furlongs to 1¼ miles and regular Sydney jockey being Ted McMenamin. Breeding Yaralla was bred by J.G.Mcdougall at Lyndhurst Stud Warwick, Queensland. Sire The Buzzard (AUS) was champion Australian sire 1946/47 & 1949/50. Imposing was a notable Australian thoroughbred racehorse. He was a chestnut son of Todman from the Arctic Explorer mare Hialeah. Emancipation (horse)
Emancipation (foaled 1979) was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. By Bletchingly, Emancipation was a grey, like her dam, Ammo Girl, and her damsire, Gunsynd. She was bred by Mark Hough, in New South Wales, after her dam was purchased from trainer Tommy Smith for just $1,700 due to her unsound conformation and her breeding (her sire was standing at a fee of only $1,500 at the time). Her breeder was only interested in her as a broodmare, and approached her trainer, Neville Begg, to recommend someone who would lease her for racing purposes. Racing career Unraced at two, Emancipation raced only at three and four, and won 19 of her 28 starts. These included six Group One wins - all in Sydney. Super Impose
Super Impose (5 October 1984 – 23 March 2007) was a New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. In a career spanning 74 starts, he won eight Group One races and a then Australasian record $5.6 million in prize money. Trained throughout his career by Lee Freedman and ridden in his Group One wins by Bruce Compton (once), Darren Gauci (once), Darren Beadman (five times), and Greg Hall (once), Super Impose won the AJC Epsom and Doncaster Handicaps two years in a row, in 1990 and 1991, and won the Cox Plate at his penultimate start as an eight-year-old in 1992. Saintly
Saintly (21 September 1992 – 16 December 2016) was an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who was named Australia's champion racehorse in 1997. A giant chestnut gelding by Sky Chase out of All Grace (by Sir Tristram), he was bred by his trainer, Bart Cummings, who owned him in partnership with a Malaysian businessman, Dato Tan Chin Nam. In 2017 Saintly was inducted to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. Saintly gained the moniker 'The horse from heaven' due to his name and his partnership with jockey Darren Beadman, who at the time was a proclaimed born-again Christian. Race career Saintly broke his maiden as a two-year-old, on 19 April 1995, and returned in the latter part of the spring, at three, where he won three races, including the Listed Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington. Tie The Knot
Tie The Knot (foaled 1994 - Died October 2012) was an Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who won 13 Group One races. In 1999-2000, he was voted Australian Champion Stayer and in 2021 was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. Breeding Tie the Knot was a chestnut gelding sired by Nassipour (USA) from Whisked by Whiskey Road (USA). Nassipour was also the sire of Let's Elope (NZ), who won the Melbourne Cup, Mackinnon Stakes and Caulfield Cup. Tie the Knot was bred and raced by Mr O.P. Tait and Mrs S.S. Nivison. He was a half brother to the stakes winner Dream Ballad by Singspiel (IRE) and eight other named horses. Hartnell (foaled 19 April 2011) is a retired British bred thoroughbred racehorse that won four Group 1 races in Australia. Hartnell is well known for his rivalry with champion horse Winx. The pair faced each other seven times with Hartnell finishing runner up on three occasions. Verry Elleegant (foaled 12 October 2015) is a New Zealand-bred Australian-trained Thoroughbred racehorse that has won 11 Group One races. She was crowned the 2020/2021 Australian Racehorse of the Year, and was the winner of the 2021 Melbourne Cup and 2020 Caulfield Cup. Background Verry Elleegant is out of the New Zealand race mare Opulence, which was owned by her initial trainer, Nick Bishara. After Opulence won two races she was sold at the 2011 Mixed Sale at Karaka to Don Goodwin, who is the owner of Very Elleegant's sire, Zed. The horse was named after Goodwin's granddaughter Ellee. Kolding (foaled 3 November 2015) is a New Zealand bred and Australian trained thoroughbred racehorse that has won three Group I races, as well as the inaugural running of the Golden Eagle in 2020.
