Beau Zam (6 November 1984 – 17 April 2000) was a New Zealand-bred and Australian-trained Thoroughbred racehorse that won five Group 1 races. Racing career Beau Zam was the first Australian horse to win over $2 million in stake money. Zamazaan (1965 – 8 April 1990) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and Champion sire in New Zealand and Australia. Zamazaan was bred by the HH Aga Khan IV. Racing career Zamazaan was a winner of 5 stakes races from 2,400 metres to 3,100 metres. He retired from the track in 1969. Research was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who as a three-year-old carved out a unique place in Australian racing history by becoming the only filly to win the AJC Derby-AJC Oaks double. Bred at Newhaven Park Stud, Boorowa, NSW she was sired by Imperial Prince (IRE) and her dam Outing was by Boucher. Research was trained by Warwick Farm-based trainer Clarrie Conners. In 1988 Research won most of the major spring three-year-old races in Sydney and Melbourne by winning the Group 1 Flight Stakes (over 1600 metres) at Randwick and the VRC Oaks (over 2500 metres) at Flemington. She also won the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes that spring and finished second to Riverina Charm in the Group 1 The Thousand Guineas. The Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year is awarded to the Thoroughbred horse who is voted to be the champion horse within an Australian racing season. This award is open to all racehorses racing within Australia, regardless of age and sex, and includes overseas performances. Poetic Prince, known in Australia as Our Poetic Prince, was an Australian bred and New Zealand trained race-horse that was a top performer at Group 1 level. Racing career Poetic Prince was trained by John Wheeler at New Plymouth. Two year old season After a third in his debut race at Ellerslie Racecourse on 18 April 1987 he won his next three races, at Trentham Racecourse and Foxton over 1200m ridden by David Walsh and then Wairarapa (1400m) with Garry Phillips. He was then taken to Eagle Farm where he raced once, a sixth placing in the Castlemaine Stakes (1600m) on a heavy track behind Flotilla and Hunter. The Chipping Norton Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses three years old and older, run at weight for age, over a distance of 1600 metres at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia in February or March. Prizemoney is A$600,000. History The race is major preparatory race for the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup as the winner is exempt from ballot for entry into each race. The race is named after the suburb Chipping Norton located in Liverpool located 27 kilometres south-west of Sydney. Lord Reims
Lord Reims was a New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who raced with success in Australia. Background Lord Reims was a chestnut son of Zamazaan (FR) from the mare Right On (NZ). He was trained in New Zealand by Cliff Fenwick at Takanini. Racing career He excelled at staying races with his major race victories including the 1987 MRC Caulfield Cup (defeating the champion Beau Zam) and three successive SAJC Adelaide Cup’s from 1987 to 1989 at Morphettville Racecourse. The horse died of colic complications at Melbourne airport returning from over seas. Lord Reims was buried near the winning post at Morphettville and in 2010 the Lord Reims Stakes was named in his honor. Caulfield Cup
The Caulfield Cup is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race held under handicap conditions, although the Melbourne Racing Club is in the process of turning the race into weight for age (WFA) conditions. This is for all horses aged three years old and older. It takes place over a distance of 2400 metres at the Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in mid October. The prize money is A$5,000,000.
