Hill of Beath Hawthorn Football Club are a Scottish football club from Hill of Beath, near Cowdenbeath, Fife. Formed in 1975, they play their home games at Keir's Park. Their colours are red with white flashes. They currently compete in the , having moved from the SJFA East Super League in 2018. History The club played in the Kirkcaldy and District Amateur league until 1982 when they joined the Fife Junior League. The Haws won the Fife League eight times before becoming founding members of the East Region Super League in 2002. They spent all but one year in the Super League and finished runners-up three times, prior to their move to the East of Scotland League in 2018. A year later the club become full members of the Scottish Football Association, allowing them to enter the Scottish Cup for the first time in 2019–20, and also joined the Fife FA which enables them to compete in the Fife Cup. Hill Of Beath
Hill of Beath (; sco, Hill o Beath) is a hill and a village in Fife, Scotland, just outside Dunfermline and joined to Cowdenbeath. On 16 June 1670 the Hill of Beath was the location of a celebrated meeting of the Covenanters at which preachers John Blackadder and John Dickson officiated. It was described as "a great gathering of persons who came from the east of Fife and as far West as Stirling". At that conventicle, during the height of the struggle against episcopal rule, the Covenanters brought swords and pistols to defend themselves against attack. The village at this location was built and owned by the Fife Coal Company, which rented the cottages to the miners for the duration of their employment in the mine. In 1896 the village population was about 1,300. As an experiment, a public house was started in June 1896 using the Gothenburg system, with any profits to be used for public works. Tommy McDonald (footballer Born 1930)
Thomas McDonald (24 May 1930 – 24 August 2004) was a Scottish footballer who played as a right winger. He made over 200 appearances for a number of different clubs in both the Scottish and English leagues. Career McDonald's first professional club were Hibernian, where he made his first senior appearances. In April 1954 he moved to English First Division champions Wolverhampton Wanderers. He struggled to gain first team action at Molineux though, and made just six appearances in total for the club before moving to Leicester City for £6,000 in July 1956. He made the most appearances of his playing career for Leicester, playing over 100 league games during a four-year stay, and helping them to promotion to the top flight under Dave Halliday. He returned to his native Scotland in July 1960 when he became Jock Stein's first purchase for Dunfermline Athletic at a cost of £3,000. The 2011–12 East Superleague (known as the ACA Sports East Superleague for sponsorship reasons) was the 11th season of the East Superleague, the top tier of league competition for SJFA East Region member clubs. The season began on 27 August 2011 and ended on 26 May 2012. Bo'ness United were the reigning champions. Kelty (Scottish Gaelic: Cailtidh) is a former coal mining village located in Fife, Scotland. Lying in the heart of the old mining heartlands of Fife, it is situated on the Fife/Kinross-shire boundary and has a population of around 6,000 residents. This was nearer to 9,000 when the coal mining industry was still operational in late 1970s and early 1980s. Origins The origin of the name of the village is somewhat obscure. It could come from the Scottish Gaelic ''coillte'' or ''coilltean'' meaning 'wood' or 'woodland' or it could come from the Gaelic ''cailtidh'', a reduced form of the early Gaelic ''*caleto-dubron'', meaning 'hard water'. In either case, it was probably originally a Pictish name that was later adapted to Gaelic.
