Hilda Murillo
Hilda Murillo Saavedra (born December 15, 1951) is an Ecuadorian singer, also known as "La Triunfadora de América". Biography Hilda Murillo was born in Guayaquil on December 15, 1951, the daughter of singer and music teacher and guitarist and composer Washington Murillo. Singing since age four, at seven she recorded a disc of children's tunes with the Orquesta América. This produced the hit songs "La Marcha de las Letras" and "La Canción de los Domingos". She would later record more Ecuadorian songs together with her mother. In her youth she studied medicine, but dropped out in her third year to dedicate herself to music, particularly the genres of pasillo, bolero, and ballad. The title track of her 1973 album ''Palabras, Palabras'' was a #1 hit on Miami radio, and was awarded a gold record. Bolero Singers
Bolero is a genre of song which originated in Oriente Province, eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Bolero (Spanish dance), Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''. A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads derive from the medieval French ''chanson balladée'' or ''ballade'', which were originally "dance songs".
