Hilarión Pérez Guerra (c. 1800 – c. 1870) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from January 1857 to 11 July 1863. Prior to serving as mayor of Ponce, Perez Guerra had served as mayor of Camuy for 1 year in 1850. Mayoral term A festivity, later known as Carnaval de Ponce, takes place in 1858. Pedro Juan Capó
Pedro Juan Capó was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from September 1856 to December 1856. Biography Capó was one of the major landlords in the municipality of Santa Isabel. In Santa Isabel, Capó owned both lands and the slaves to work them. He owned hacienda ''El Destino'' (The Destiny), one of the few haciendas which, as of 2008, still existed in good condition. Luis De Quixano Y Font
Luis de Quixano y Font (c. 1810 - c. 1880) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 11 July 1863 to 23 June 1865. Background Quixano Font was a retired Spanish colonel that performed as corregidor mayor of Ponce. He was also an early propeller of the celebration of the '' fiestas patronales'' in Ponce. Mayoral term Luis de Quixano y Font is best known for building the now-historic 65-kiosk Plaza del Mercado de Ponce in 1863. Occupying a full city block, this farmers' market was modeled after the Paris farmers' market. Luis de Quixano is also credited with setting up the first lighting of the city, when he ordered the installation of 16 oil-based lampposts around Plaza Las Delicias in 1864. Camuy
Camuy () is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Lares and San Sebastián; east of Quebradillas; and west of Hatillo. Camuy is spread over 12 barrios and Camuy Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). The town celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2007. Carnaval De Ponce
The Carnaval de Ponce (English: Ponce Carnival), officially Carnaval Ponceño, is an annual celebration held in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The celebration lasts one week and it ends on the day before Ash Wednesday. Thus, it is generally held in February and sometimes in March. It is one of the oldest carnivals of the Western Hemisphere, dating back to 1858. Some authorities, such as the Smithsonian Institution, believe the Ponce Carnaval can be traced to as far back as 250 years ago. The Carnaval coincides with the Mardi Gras of New Orleans, the Carnival of Venice, and Rio de Janeiro's Carnival. The estimated attendance is 100,000. Scenes of the 2011 Carnaval Ponceño were featured in the Travel Channel on 7 August 2011. This is a list of mayors of Ponce, Puerto Rico's southern economic center, the island's second largest and second most important city. From 1692 to 1840, the office of mayor in Ponce was filled either by local hacendados or by military officers appointed by the governor, depending on whether the political situation on Spain at the time was that of a constitutional or an absolutist government.
