Highwood (electoral District)
Highwood is a provincial electoral district in southern Alberta, Canada. The district is one of 87 in the province mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. The district was created in the 1971 boundary redistribution out of the old Okotoks-High River riding and the North part of Pincher Creek-Crowsnest. The district has favoured right leaning parties since its creation. Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta candidates held the district from 1975 until 2012 when they were unseated by the Wildrose Party. The current representative is RJ Sigurdson, who was first elected in 2019. Calgary Metropolitan Region
The Calgary Metropolitan Region (CMR), also commonly referred to as the Calgary Region, is a conglomeration of municipalities centred on Calgary, the largest city in Alberta. With the Government of Alberta's establishment of the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) in 2017, the CMR's boundaries were legislated to include the City of Calgary, Foothills County to the south, Rocky View County to the west, north, and east, and a western portion of Wheatland County further to the east. Also within these boundaries are the cities of Airdrie and Chestermere, eight towns: Black Diamond, Cochrane, Crossfield, High River, Irricana, Okotoks, Strathmore, and Turner Valley, two villages: Beiseker and Longview, and two First Nations communities: Tsuu T'ina 145 and Eden Valley 216. Foothills-Rocky View
Foothills-Rocky View was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from under the First Past the Post voting system 2004 to 2012. History The Foothills-Rocky View electoral district was located on the western rural edge of Calgary in southern Alberta. It was created in the 2003 electoral boundary re-distribution from the eastern portion of the electoral district of Banff-Cochrane and the western portion of the old electoral district of Airdrie-Rocky View which comprises the northern portion of the riding. The district is named after the Foothills of Southern Alberta and Rocky View County. The riding included part of the town of Cochrane, Bragg Creek and the Springbank area. Edward Benoit
Edward Philip Benoit (November 26, 1918 – January 22, 1991) was a former provincial level politician. He served as a member of the Alberta Legislature from 1963 until 1975. He was born in Calgary. Political career Benoit was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 1963 Alberta general election. He won the former riding of Okotoks-High River holding it for the Social Credit party. In that election he won a comfortable plurality of almost seven hundred votes over Progressive Conservative candidate Samuel Brown and two other candidates. He was re-elected to his second term in office in the 1967 Alberta general election barely retaining his seat as he squeaked out a two hundred vote win in a hotly contested race against Progressive Conservative Thomas Hughes and two other candidates. The 17th Alberta Legislative Assembly was in session from March 2, 1972, to February 14, 1975, with the membership of the assembly determined by the results of the 1971 Alberta general election held on August 30, 1971. The Legislature officially resumed on March 2, 1972, and continued until the fourth session was prorogued and dissolved on February 14, 1975, prior to the 1975 Alberta general election. Alberta's seventeenth government was controlled by the majority Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta for the first time, led by Premier Peter Lougheed. Chestermere-Rocky View was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post method of voting from 2012 to 2019. History Boundary history Chestermere-Rocky View was created from large portions of the old electoral district of Airdrie-Chestermere and Foothills-Rocky View in the 2010 Alberta boundary re-distribution. The district surrounds the western, northern and eastern boundaries of the city of Calgary. Calgary-South East (previously styled Calgary South East) is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta. It has existed twice, first from 1959 to 1963, and then re-created in 2010. Calgary-Lougheed
Calgary-Lougheed is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. It is one of 87 districts mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post method of voting. The district is primarily urban, and it exists on the suburban fringes of the city of Calgary. It was created in the 1993 boundary redistribution from Calgary-Shaw, and is named in honour of former Premier Peter Lougheed, who held the nearby seat of Calgary West from 1967 to 1986. The district has been a stronghold for Progressive Conservative candidates since it was created. The riding is currently vacant following the resignation of the former Premier of Alberta, Jason Kenney of the United Conservative Party.
