Highway 70 (Wisconsin)
State Trunk Highway 70 (often called Highway 70, STH-70 or WIS 70) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs east–west in northern Wisconsin from a shared terminus with WIS 101 at US Highway 2 (US 2) and US 141 near Florence to a connection with Minnesota State Highway 70 (MN 70) at the St. Croix River west of Grantsburg in Burnett County. It serves the communities of Grantsburg, Siren, Spooner, and the resort areas of Minocqua, Woodruff and Eagle River along its route. WIS 70 is the third-most northern route to almost completely cross Wisconsin (after US 2 and WIS 77), stretching from Minnesota to within of the Michigan border. Grantsburg, Wisconsin
Grantsburg is a village in Burnett County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,341 at the 2010 census. The village is located within the Town of Grantsburg. It was established by Canute Anderson. Geography Grantsburg is located at (45.780541, -92.684718). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Grantsburg is situated along the Wood River, which is dammed on the western edge of town to form the small body of water named Memory Lake. A playground and campsite have been built here. The Wood River continues west and south to the St. Croix River. The terrain is generally flat, and the land around Grantsburg is heavily wooded, though there is substantial farm acreage, especially to the east and south. Siren, Wisconsin
Siren is a village in, and the county seat of, Burnett County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 806 at the 2010 census. The village is surrounded by the Town of Siren. History The Ojibwe and the French fur traders were the principal inhabitants of the region in the early 1800s. Swedish immigrants began settling in the area around what is now Siren in the 1880s. Many of them were members of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The first post office was built in 1895 about a mile west of its present location. The first postmaster was Charles F. Segerstrom, who had the post office in his home. His home was surrounded by lilacs, which are quite abundant in the area. Segerstrom applied with the postal department for a name for the place, choosing "Syren", Swedish for "lilac." Couderay River
The Couderay River is a tributary of the Chippewa River in northwestern Wisconsin in the United States. Via the Chippewa River, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. It flows for its entire length in Sawyer County. Its name is derived from the French "Rivière des Courte Oreilles" (River of the "Short Ears"). Course The Couderay River flows from Lac Courte Oreilles and passes through Little Lac Courte Oreilles, the Billy Boy Flowage and the Grimh Flowage. It flows generally east-southeastwardly, through the Lac Courte Oreilles Indian Reservation and past the communities of Reserve, Couderay and Radisson. Wisconsin Highway 27
State Trunk Highway 27 (often called Highway 27, STH-27 or WIS 27) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The highway spans a length of and is generally two-lane local road with the exception of urban multilane arterials within some cities. Earlier routing of the highway had it reaching Superior along the present US 53 and Fennimore along the present US 61 and following I-94 between Black River Falls and Osseo. Route description In southern Crawford County, WIS 27 begins at a junction with US 18, WIS 60 and WIS 35 in Prairie du Chien. Stone Lake is a town in Washburn County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 544 at the 2000 census. The census-designated place of Stone Lake is located partially in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 34.8 square miles (90.2 km2), of which, 33.7 square miles (87.2 km2) of it is land and 1.2 square miles (3.0 km2) of it (3.36%) is water. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons.
