Highgate Harriers
Highgate Harriers are a UK Athletics club based in North London. Their home track is Parliament Hill, London Athletics track. They compete in the Southern Athletics League Division 2 East and the Metropolitan Cross Country League. Night of the 10,000 metres PBs Since 2013, Highgate Harriers have hosted a track competition for solely 10,000 metre races. The event is usually held mid-late May/early June and from 2014 the English Championships for 10,000 metres were incorporated in the event. From 2016 the British Athletics Championships were also held as part of the competition. Editions History Highgate Harriers was founded in 1879. Parliament Hill, London
Parliament Hill is an area of open parkland in the south-east corner of Hampstead Heath in north-west London. The hill, which is high, is notable for its views of the capital's skyline. The Palace of Westminster, Houses of Parliament, which are south of Parliament Hill in the City of Westminster, can be seen from the summit, although construction in the intermediate parts of London has partly obscured them. History A mound on the hill may have been a Bronze Age burial barrow. In 1133, the hill was part of a Manorialism, manor that Henry I of England, Henry I gave to a baron called Richard de Balta. During Henry II of England, Henry II's reign it was passed to Alexander de Barentyn, the king's butler. Stephanie Twell
Stephanie April "Steph" Twell (born 17 August 1989) is a British middle- and long-distance runner who competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and trains at Aldershot, Farnham & District AC. She won the 1500 metres at the 2008 World Junior Championships, and is a three-time winner of the European Junior Cross Country Championships (2006–2008), as well as being part of four winning Great Britain teams. Representing Scotland, she won a bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Twell is currently sponsored by sports company Hoka One One and was previously sponsored by New Balance. Simeon Williamson
Simeon Oscar Williamson (born 16 January 1986) is an English bobsledder and former track and field sprinter who specialised in the 100 metres., beijing2008.cn, ret: 26 August 2008 Williamson, a London native, is the second cousin to 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medalist British high jumper Germaine Mason. He is coached by Lloyd Cowan, and his athletics club is Highgate Harriers. He is a former British 100 metres champion. Career He won the silver at the European Junior Championships in 2005, 1/100th of a second behind Craig Pickering, to complete a British 1–2–3 with third placed Alex Nelson. In 2007 he became European Athletics Under-23 Champion in the 100 m, clocking a personal best of 10.10 seconds and edging out compatriot Pickering in a British 1–2. 3000 Metre Steeplechase
The 3000 metres steeplechase or 3000-meter steeplechase (usually abbreviated as ) is the most common distance for the steeplechase in track and field. It is an obstacle race over the distance of the 3000 metres, which derives its name from the horse racing steeplechase. Wendy Hoyte
Wendy Patricia Hoyte (née Clarke; born 17 December 1957) is a British former sprinter, who won a 1982 Commonwealth Games gold medal and a 1982 European Championships silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay. She also competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. She is the holder of the United Kingdom indoor 50 m record, which she set in 1981. As of 2016, the record still stands. Career Hoyte was born in London, England. She was a member of Highgate Harriers and later the Borough of Hounslow Athletic Club. As Wendy Clarke, she first came to prominence at the age of 17 in 1975, when she won two medals at the European Junior Championships in Athens. Roy Anselm Hollingsworth (born 28 December 1933) is a former international athlete. Athletics career Born in Trinidad, he represented England in the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games before representing Great Britain at the 1964 Summer Olympics in the discus and came tenth in that competition. 3000 Metres
The 3000 metres or 3000-metre run is a track running event, also commonly known as the "3K" or "3K run", where 7.5 laps are run around an outdoor 400 m track, or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track. It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle-distance or long-distance event. In elite-level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.43 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning, and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the mile runner. George Webber (athlete)
George Joseph Webber (6 December 1895 – 31 May 1950) was a British athlete who competed mainly in the 3000 metre team. He was born in Shepherds Bush, London, and affiliated with Highgate Harriers. English National Cross Country Championships
The English National Cross Country Championships is an annual England, English cross country running event which takes place in late February following the regional championships (Southern, Midlands and Northern) which all take place on the same weekend usually in late January. The event is the oldest national cross country championship in the world, having been first run in 1876. The English, Welsh and Scottish National Cross Country Championships are all usually held on the same day. Format There are categories for senior men and women, junior men and women, U17, U15, U13 and club teams. The course is 12 km for men and 8 km for women and the fact that the distances for senior men and senior women is different has recently been a topic for discussion and review.
