Edward Burlton Heusser (May 7, 1909 – March 1, 1956) was an American professional baseball pitcher whose 20-season (1929–1948) pro career included 266 games pitched in Major League Baseball (MLB) over nine seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals (1935–1936), Philadelphia Phillies (1938 and 1948), Philadelphia Athletics (1940) and Cincinnati Reds (1943–1946). In , he led the National League in earned run average with a sparkling 2.38 mark in 192 innings pitched. He earned the colorful nickname of "The Wild Elk of Wasatch". Felipe Heusser (born 1980) is a Chilean activist and social entrepreneur, co-founder of Ciudadano Inteligente, a Latin American civic technology organization based in Santiago-Chile, awarded with the 2011 Golden Nica for 'Digital Communities' and the 2013 Omidyar Network Award. Jakob Heusser-Staub (3 March 1862 – 23 August 1941 as Jakob Heusser) was a Swiss industrialist and philanthropist. Born and raised in the village of Irgenhausen, Heusser-Staub made Uster his home. With the support of his wife, Berta, he founded the ''Heusser-Staub'' foundation. Early life and education Born in the hamlet of Irgenhausen in the municipality of Wetzikon, he was the son of Luise née Schellenberg and Caspar. He attended ''Sekundarschule'' (pre-college level) in Wetzikon and was a citizen of Pfäffikon. From 1877 to 1879, he attended the Industrial School in Zürich. Afterwards he received practical and commercial training at his father's business. His father, Caspar Heusser (1836–1910), was a cotton manufacturer who sold his products in Kempten and the surrounding area. Johanna Louise Spyri (; ; 12 June 1827 – 7 July 1901) was a Swiss author of novels, notably children's stories, and is best known for her book ''Heidi''. Born in Hirzel, a rural area in the canton of Canton of Zürich, Zurich, Switzerland, as a child she spent several summers near Chur in Graubünden, the setting she later would use in her novels. Biography In 1852, Johanna Heusser married Bernhard Spyri. Bernhard was a lawyer. Whilst living in the city of Zürich she began to write about life in the country. Her first story, ''A Leaf on Vrony's Grave'', which deals with a woman's life of domestic violence, was published in 1880; the following year further stories for both adults and children appeared, among them the novel ''Heidi'', which she wrote in four weeks. ''Heidi'' tells the story of an orphan girl who lives with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps, and is famous for its vivid portrayal of the landscape.
