Charles Herrold
Charles David "Doc" Herrold (November 16, 1875 – July 1, 1948) was an American inventor and pioneer radio broadcaster, who began experimenting with audio radio transmissions in 1909. Beginning in 1912 he apparently became the first person to make entertainment broadcasts on a regular schedule, from his station in San Jose, California. Early life Born in Fulton, Illinois, Herrold grew up in San Jose. In 1895 he enrolled in Stanford University, where he studied astronomy and physics for three years, but withdrew due to illness and never graduated. While at Stanford he was inspired by reports of Guglielmo Marconi's demonstrations that radio signals could be used for wireless communication, and began to experiment with the new technology. After recovering from his illness, Herrold moved to San Francisco, where he developed a number of inventions for dentistry, surgery, and underwater illumination. Maurice Herrold (25 June 1869 – 26 August 1949) was a New Zealand rugby union player. Biography Born in India to English parents, Herrold arrived with his family in New Zealand in 1880. He was educated at Napier Boys' High School and then at Auckland Grammar School. A halfback, Herrold eight times represented Auckland at a provincial level including two matches against touring 1888 British Lions. He was a member of the New Zealand national side on their 1893 tour to Australia. Herrold Bridge
The Herrold Bridge is a historic structure located near the unincorporated community of Herrold, Iowa, United States. It carried a gravel road for over Beaver Creek. with Completed in 1921, this concrete cantilevered deck girder bridge replaced an earlier timber pile structure. It was designed by the Iowa State Highway Commission the previous year, and the Polk County Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract to Ben Cole of Ames. The total cost of construction was $24,283.36. The bridge features three arched concrete deck girder spans that are cantilevered from concrete abutments and piers. It is considered one of the most technologically significant of Iowa's concrete girder bridges. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. While it remains in place, the Herrold Bridge was replaced by a newer span slightly downstream. Herrold Run (also known as Harrold Run) is a tributary of the Susquehanna River in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately long and flows through Union Township. The watershed of the stream has an area of . The stream is relatively small and the stream is crossed by at least one bridge. Two schools historically existed in the stream's vicinity. Its drainage basin is designated as a Warmwater Fishery and a Migratory Fishery. Course Herrold Run begins on a hill in Union Township. It flows southeast for a short distance before turning east-southeast and entering a valley. After several tenths of a mile, the stream turns southeast for several tenths of a mile. It then turns south-southeast, entering the census-designated place of Port Trevorton. A few tenths of a mile further downstream, the stream turns southeast, crossing US Route 11/US Route 15.
