Herringthorpe Stadium
Herringthorpe Stadium is an athletics stadium in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. The stadium was opened in 1960 and was formerly a part of the Herringthorpe Leisure Complex, along with Herringthorpe Leisure Centre and several all-weather football pitches. The stadium contains a 400m, Olympic-class running track and a grass pitch, as well as facilities for all other Olympic disciplines such as discus nets. In addition, it is surrounded by the massive Playing Fields which provide pitches and training facilities for all manner of local sports and teams. The stadium was the area's premier athletics venues until the English Institute of Sport was opened in nearby Sheffield in 2004. Rotherham Harriers athletics club are based at the stadium, and since 2005, it has been the home ground of Rugby League Conference side Rotherham Giants. Rotherham () is a large minster and market town in South Yorkshire, England. The town takes its name from the River Rother which then merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. Rotherham is also the third largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield and Doncaster, which it is located between. Traditional industries included glass making and flour milling. The English Institute of Sport is a multi-sport facility in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The facility designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects was opened in December 2003 at a cost of £24 million. Its main feature is a 200m indoor track, but it also hosts several other sporting arenas as well as a large gym and extensive sports medicine facilities. The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'.
