Herreshoff (automobile)
The Herreshoff was an automobile built in both Detroit, Michigan, and Troy, New York, by the Herreshoff Motor Company from 1909 to 1914. The Herreshoff started as a small car with a 24 hp (18 kW) four-cylinder engine, and was made with three different models. Later models were upgraded to six-cylinder engines up to 3.8 liters capacity. For 1911, Herreshoff had a roadster with a rudimentary rumble seat at US$950 (); by contrast, the high-volume Oldsmobile Runabout went for US$650 (),Clymer, p. 32. the Ford Model N and Western's Gale Model A were US$500 (), the Black was $375 (),Clymer, p. 61. and the Success, US$250 (). A light car with a 16 hp (12 kW) engine was introduced in 1914. Fisher produced bodies for the company. Herreshoff Bull's Eye
The Herreshoff Bull's Eye or Bullseye, is an American trailerable sailboat that was designed by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff and first built in 1914.Sherwood, Richard M.: ''A Field Guide to Sailboats of North America, Second Edition'', pages 60-61. Houghton Mifflin Company, 1994. The design is derived from the Herreshoff 12½ and was later developed into the Herreshoff Goldeneye. Production The design was originally built out of wood by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in the United States. In 1938 the design was given an above-transom tiller and renamed the Fishers Island Sound Bull's Eye. It was also built at the Quincy Adams Yacht Yard, in Quincy, Massachusetts. In 1947 the rights were purchased by Cape Cod Shipbuilding and a new fiberglass version, called the Cape Cod Bull's Eye, was created by the original designer's son, A. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff. Herreshoff Castle
Herreshoff Castle, formerly known as Castle Brattahlid, is an unusual residence located at 2 Crocker Park, Marblehead, Massachusetts. As of 2006, the owners have offered the carriage house as a bed-and-breakfast. The great room has not been part of the rental, but guests are typically offered a tour of it – and the rest of the castle. The main room is above it, on the second floor, , with a massive fireplace and entrance from Crocker Park, named after Uriel Crocker (1796–1887), who donated a large portion of the land. Members of the Herreshoff () family of Bristol, Rhode Island, were, among other things, notable naval architects, naval industrialists, industrial chemists, and automobile designers and manufacturers. The Herreshoff Marine Museumis a maritime museum in Bristol, Rhode Island dedicated to the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, yachting, and America's Cup. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company (1878–1945) was most notable for producing sailing yachts, including eight America's Cup defenders, and steam-powered vessels. The museum, situated near Narragansett Bay on the grounds where the manufacturing company once stood, has a collection of over sixty boats including Nathanael Greene Herreshoff's ''Clara'', built in 1887, Harold Vanderbilt's ''Trivia'', and the 1992 IACC yacht, ''Defiant''.
