Hermenegildo Reyes
Hermenegildo B. Reyes, KGCR (March 31, 1898 – 1982) co-founded the University of the East, was a Boy Scouts of the Philippines Scouting notable, Filipino educator, lawyer, mechnical and electrical engineer. Reyes served on the World Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1961 to 1967. Early life Reyes was born in Malolos, Bulacan, to Vicente Tantoco Reyes and his wife, Olympia San Agustin-Reyes. Education Reyes graduated from Ateneo de Manila University ''magna cum laude'' with a Bachelor of Arts in 1914. He earned his Bachelor in Law, Ll.B from the University of the Philippines; thereafter being admitted to Integrated Bar of the Philippines on November 18, 1935. Knights Of Rizal
The Knights of Rizal is an Order of Chivalry from the Philippines, created to honor and uphold the ideals of Philippine national hero José Rizal. The civic organisation of the "Order of the Knights of Rizal" was established in 1911 by Colonel Antonio C. Torres, who later served as the first Filipino chief of police of Manila. The Order was granted a legislative charter by President Elpidio Quirino as a non-sectarian, non-partisan, civic, patriotic, and cultural organization under Republic Act 646 on June 14, 1951. Malate, Manila
Malate is a district of Manila, Philippines. Together with the district of Ermita, it serves as Manila's center for commerce and tourism. Etymology The name ''Malate'' is believed to be derived from a corruption of the Tagalog word ''maalat'' ("salty"). Legends known that when two Spanish soldiers asked a woman about the name of the place, the lady's little brother, tasted salt, shouted "Maalat, Ate!" ("Sister, it is salty!"). The Spanish man misheard it, and used the words as the place's name. However this a common modern Filipino 'folk etymology' mechanism (and commonly employed into many Philippine place name etymologies today) and has no historical basis (eg. the term "ate" was not adopted into Tagalog vernacular from Minnan "achi" until much later into the 19th c).
