Herman Van Voorst Tot Voorst
Lt. Gen. Herman Franciscus Maria baron van Voorst tot Voorst (The Hague, 2 August 1886 - 9 July 1971) was a Dutch Army officer and politician. He was the son of Jan Joseph Godfried van Voorst tot Voorst Senior, and a younger brother of General Godfried van Voorst tot Voorst. In 1915, he married Felicia Maria baroness Schimmelpenninck van der Oye (1889-1952). He attended the Royal Military Academy in Breda and The Hague as well as the Cavalry School at Saumur. Baron van Voorst tot Voorst was appointed in February 1940 as Chief of the General Staff, under the Supreme Commander of the Land and Naval Forces, General Henri Winkelman. He was, like his brother, brought as a prisoner of war to Germany. After World War II he was member of the Senate from 1946 to 1949 and member of the Council of State from 1949 to 1961. Jan Joseph Godfried, Baron van Voorst tot Voorst Sr. (16 September 1846 – 17 January 1931) was a Dutch politician and lieutenant-general of the Dutch army. He was a member of the RKSP and was President of the Senate between 1914 and 1929. He was preceded by Jan Elias Nicolaas Schimmelpenninck van der Oye and was succeeded by Willem Lodewijk de Vos van Steenwijk. van Voorst tot Voorst is an old Netherlands, Dutch Nobility, noble family from the Dutch province of Overijssel. History The family has been noble since at least the 14th century ("Uradel"). The first documented ancestor is Fredericus van Hekeren van der Ese (in 1327). His son Frederik van Heeckeren van der Eze (1320-ca. 1386) was the head of the ''Heeckerens'' faction during the War of the Guelderian Succession. The Order of Orange-Nassau ( nl, Orde van Oranje-Nassau, links=no) is a civil and military Dutch order of chivalry founded on 4 April 1892 by the queen regent, Emma of the Netherlands. The order is a chivalric order open to "everyone who has performed acts of special merits for society.” These are people who deserve appreciation and recognition from society for the special way in which they have carried out their activities. The Order of the Netherlands Lion, also known as the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands ( nl, De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, french: L'Ordre du Lion Néerlandais) is a Dutch order of chivalry founded by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. The Bronze Wolf Award is bestowed by the World Scout Committee (WSC) to acknowledge "outstanding service by an individual to the World Scout Movement". It is the highest honor that can be given a volunteer Scout leader in the world and it is the only award given by the WSC. Since the award's creation in 1935, fewer than 400 of the several millions of Scouts throughout the world have received the award. History Scouting's founder, Robert Baden-Powell, initially recognized outstanding contributions to Scouting by any Scout with the bestowal of the Silver Wolf, but although he was Chief Scout of the World, the Silver Wolf was associated with British Scouting.
