Herby Arthur
William John Herbert Arthur (14 February 1863 – 27 November 1930) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Blackburn Rovers and the English national side. Early and personal life Arthur was born on 14 February 1863 in Blackburn, Lancashire, the eldest of three sons. By 1881 he was assisting his father's business as a leather dealer. He married in 1891, and had two children, a daughter and a son. Club career Arthur began his career with local clubs Lower Bank Academy and King's Own, before joining Blackburn Rovers during 1880-81 season. He was initially a right half, before becoming goalkeeper for the reserve team. In 1884 a correspondent of the ''Blackburn Times'' wrote the following about Arthur: "As a goalkeeper does not rank as a brilliant or tricky player, but he has the better quality of being safe, and whether engaged in important or small matches is invariably on the alert to prevent the scoring of any point against his side. Blackburn () is an industrial town and the administrative centre of the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire, England. Turf Moor
Turf Moor is an association football stadium in Burnley, Lancashire, England, which has been the home of Burnley F.C. since 1883. This unbroken service makes Turf Moor the second-longest continuously used ground in English professional football. The stadium is situated on Harry Potts Way, named after the manager who won the 1959–60 First Division with the club, and has a capacity of 21,944. The Turf Moor site has been used for sporting activities since at least 1843, when Burnley Cricket Club moved to the area. In 1883, they invited Burnley F.C. to use a pitch adjacent to the cricket field. Southport is a seaside town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. Charles Clegg (footballer)
Sir John Charles Clegg (15 June 1850 – 26 June 1937), better known as Charles Clegg, was an English footballer and later both chairman and president of the Football Association. He was born in Sheffield and lived there his whole life. He competed in the first international match between England and Scotland in 1872. He was the older brother of William Clegg, whom he played both with and against. He became heavily involved in local football serving as chairman and president of Sheffield Wednesday and one of the founders of Sheffield United. He played a critical role in merging the two competing Sheffield football associations into the Sheffield and Hallamshire Football Association, of which he then became chairman. During his reign in charge of the FA he became known as the ''Napoleon of Football''.
